Job summary

Job Description

OT Technician is responsible for supporting surgical procedures by preparing the operation theatre, instruments, equipment, consumables, and patient requirements. The includes assisting surgeons and nursing staff, maintaining sterile techniques, preparing and handling instruments, supporting patient positioning and transfer, maintaining OT records, coordinating with CSSD and other departments, and ensuring infection prevention and patient safety standards.

  • Ensure availability and readiness of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Check OT supplies, consumables, implants, and emergency equipment.
  • Assist surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing teams during procedures.
  • Maintain strict sterile and aseptic techniques throughout surgical activities.
  • Arrange and prepare surgical instruments according to procedure requirements.
  • Assist with instrument, sponge, needle, and material counts as required.
  • Support safe patient positioning and transfer.
  • Assist with preparation of equipment required for anaesthesia and surgery.
  • Handle surgical instruments and consumables appropriately.
  • Assist in maintaining OT registers, checklists, and procedure documentation.
  • Coordinate with CSSD for sterile instrument sets and surgical supplies.
  • Assist with proper labeling and transfer of surgical specimens.
  • Support emergency and urgent surgical procedures as required.
  • Follow infection prevention and biomedical waste management procedures.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and turnover of OT areas.
  • Report equipment malfunction, shortages, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Coordinate with biomedical engineering for equipment-related issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of OT areas.
  • Follow hospital SOPs, patient safety standards, and professional procedures.
