Job Description

Nursing Staff - Operation Theatre is responsible for providing nursing support before, during, and after surgical procedures. The includes patient preparation, assisting surgical and anesthesia teams, maintaining sterile practices, medication and instrument management, documentation, infection control, and ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative process.

• Prepare patients for scheduled surgical procedures.
• Verify patient identity, procedure details, consent, and required documentation.
• Prepare the operation theatre, instruments, equipment, and consumables.
• Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgical procedures.
• Maintain sterile and aseptic conditions in the operation theatre.
• Assist with surgical positioning and patient preparation.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments as required.
• Assist with surgical instrument, sponge, and consumable counts.
• Monitor patient condition and vital signs during procedures.
• Assist anesthesia staff with patient monitoring and preparation.
• Ensure availability and readiness of emergency medicines and equipment.
• Maintain accurate OT nursing records and procedure documentation.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments and supplies.
• Coordinate with laboratory, blood bank, pharmacy, and other departments.
• Follow infection-control and surgical-safety protocols.
• Handle and dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital procedures.
• Assist with patient transfer to recovery, ICU, or ward after procedures.
• Clean and prepare the OT for subsequent procedures.
• Report equipment issues, shortages, and patient-safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Follow hospital OT SOPs, nursing standards, and applicable clinical protocols.
