Job summary

Carrier in Gurugram is seeking a Manager/Sr. Manager - Chiller System Engineering with 8-12 years of experience in chiller R&D and product design. You will lead thermal design, component selection, testing, and cross-functional project execution from concept to launch.

The role requires a Bachelor’s/Master’s in Mechanical/ Thermal Engineering and hands-on experience with DFMEA, DOE, and chiller systems. This position is on-site in Gurugram.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering.
• 8–12 years of experience in Chiller R&D and product design.
• Experience with chiller components and thermal design processes.

Responsibilities

• Thermal design & simulations for water-cooled and air-cooled chillers.
• Design and selection of compressors, heat exchangers, oil separators and EXVs.
• Chiller testing and qualification per applicable standards and reliability goals.
• Coordinate sub-assemblies design with suppliers and prepare BOMs/ manuals.
• Review drawings with tolerance analysis; perform DFMEA and DOE reviews.
• Develop project plan and drive it to launch with cross-functional teams.

• About the role : 8 - 12 years of experiencein Chiller system Engineering and product design.

Job Responsibility

• Chillers product Thermal Design & Simulations/DoE for Water Cooled & Air cooled chillers
• Design and Component selection (e.g. compressor, Shell & tube heat exchanger, Oil separator, Economizer, EXVs, fan/motors etc)
• Chiller Test/ qualify the product/ parts as per applicable standards and per reliability requirements.
• Design of the sub-assemblies and parts & development in coordination with suppliers
• Prepare BOMs, Launch literature (Installation & Service manual, Training manual etc).
• Drawings review & tolerance analysis. Knowledge of Design process DFMEA, RRCA, DOE, DFM/A/S
• Develop project plan and execute it for flawless launch. Engage with other cross functional team for execution of the projects.
• Program/Project Management for chiller products (concept to launch)

Requirements

Bachelors / Master’s Degree in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: 7-11 years in Chillers R&D

Essential Competencies/ Primary Skill Set

• Thermal system design & development for Chillers
• Experience of selection and integration of key components like compressor, Copper tubes, Economizer, Thermal design of heat exchanger (Shell & Tube, Fin & Tube, MCHX, Brazed plate type etc.) oil separator design/optimization etc.
• Design of the sub-assemblies and parts & development in coordination with suppliers.
• Chiller Prototype Preparation & conducting a DFMEA, DFA/M/S & Design Reviews at various stages.
• VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering) and product costing, should costing analysis
• Design and drawing review, review designs/ drawings and prepare Bills of Materials.
• Exposure of different refrigerants selections and properties (HFC, HCFC, CFCs , HFOs)
• Tracks and follow-up of all projects and provide status updates regularly.
• Product Innovation – identify relevant trends in products and initiate actions.
• Identify / evaluate opportunities and develop prototype post design simulations on software’s .
• Engage with other cross functional team for execution of the projects.
• Adherence to project time schedule, risk identification & mitigation

Desirable Competencies/ Secondary Skill Set

• Shell & Tube HE Thermal & Mechanical Design as per ASME Sec VIII Div-1 & TEMA-C.
• Test, Optimize, qualify the product as per applicable standards (IS16590, AHRI 550/551 etc) and Chiller BEE labelling. Exposure to chiller controls and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of system simulation software’s (e.g. HTRI, MATLAB etc)
• Knowledge of pressure vessels design and applicable codes (e.g. ASME/TEMA)
• Experience of Dimensioning & Tolerance analysis
• Analytical thinking, Problem solving, adaptability and strong communication skills.
• Self-starter who can work on his/her own initiative, balance demand load & priorit
