Job summary

Tata AutoComp is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Leader to supervise fabrication, machining, assembly, and testing operations. You will translate demand forecasts into equipment, tooling, and capital plans, establish production standards, and drive productivity improvements across the plant.

The role requires leading automation initiatives, selecting and integrating robots, PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, and MES solutions, while managing capital projects from justification to handover

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial, Manufacturing, Automation, or related engineering discipline.- Diversity preferred
  • Typically 8–12 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, industrial automation, controls, process engineering, or engineering project execution.
  • Experience implementing automation in a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly methods, equipment, tooling, plant layouts, and production systems.
  • Experience with capital-equipment projects from concept and business case through commissioning and production handover.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, industrial networks, sensors, machine vision, motion control, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, OEE, capacity planning, and structured problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare cost-benefit analyses, ROI justifications, budgets, schedules, and risk registers.
  • Strong written, verbal, vendor-management, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and project-management software.
  • Comparable current roles commonly request at least five years of automation, controls, robotics, manufacturing-systems, or engineering-leadership experience; requirements vary by industry and organizational scale.
  • Experience with MES, SCADA, IIoT, digital twins, predictive analytics, or Industry 4.0 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead manufacturing engineering activities for fabrication, machining, assembly, testing, packaging, and related production operations.
  • Develop manufacturing strategies for new products, product transfers, capacity expansions, and production-line improvements.
  • Translate demand forecasts and production schedules into requirements for equipment, tooling, manpower, floor space, utilities, infrastructure, and capital investment.
  • Establish manufacturing standards for process design, line balancing, tooling, fixtures, layouts, and production readiness.
  • Improve productivity, throughput, first-pass yield, quality, ergonomics, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Apply lean manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, value-stream mapping, root-cause analysis, and standard-work principles.
  • Develop and execute an automation and smart-manufacturing roadmap aligned with business objectives.
  • Evaluate, select, design, integrate, install, commission, validate, and sustain: industrial robots and cobots; PLC, HMI, SCADA, and machine-control systems; automated assembly and inspection systems; vision systems, sensors, servos, pneumatics, and motion-control equipment; AGVs, AMRs, conveyors, and material-handling systems; MES and production-data solutions.
  • Prepare technical justifications, capital requests, business cases, ROI calculations, and payback analyses for automation projects.
  • Define user requirements, functional specifications, acceptance criteria, and validation plans.
  • Manage machine builders, system integrators, consultants, and equipment suppliers.
  • Lead factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, production ramp-up, and handover to operations and maintenance.
  • Control project scope, schedule, budget, risks, resources, procurement, and technical deliverables.
  • Assess emerging technologies and determine their readiness for production deployment.
  • Ensure new equipment is maintainable, scalable, safe, and compatible with existing plant systems.
  • Develop manufacturing processes for new automotive products and product variants.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability, assembly feasibility, process capability, and cost.
  • Define process flow, operation sequence, cycle time, manpower, tooling, fixtures, gauges, and equipment requirements.
  • Prepare process concepts, line layouts, capacity studies, and preliminary capital-cost estimates.
  • Select suitable technologies such as machining, welding, stamping, injection molding, painting, assembly, battery assembly, or automation.
  • Ensure effective handover of validated processes from product development or launch teams to serial production.
