Role Summary: Sr Manager Automation
Key Responsibilities
To develop and implement automation solutions across machining, fabrication, sheet metal, and assembly operations to improve Productivity, Quality, Safety, and Manufacturing Competitiveness while ensuring optimum return on investment.
Manufacturing Automation Strategy
- Develop and execute the automation roadmap aligned with company manufacturing strategy.
- Identify automation opportunities across manufacturing processes.
- Benchmark industry best practices and emerging automation technologies.
Low-Cost Automation (LCA)
- Lead development and implementation of low-cost automation solutions.
- Drive projects involving:
- Poka-Yoke systems
- Auto-clamping devices
- Auto-loading and unloading systems
- Sensor-based inspection systems
- Part handling automation
- Productivity improvement fixtures
- Deliver measurable improvements in cycle time, quality, and labor productivity.
Machining Automation
- Develop automation solutions for CNC and VMC operations.
- Implement:
- Robotic loading/unloading
- Gantry systems
- Automatic tool management systems
- Automated gauging and inspection systems
- Improve machine utilization and reduce manual intervention.
Fabrication and Sheet Metal Automation
- Identify opportunities for welding automation and robotic welding.
- Improve productivity in cutting, bending, punching, and fabrication operations.
- Develop automated material handling and work positioning solutions.
Assembly Automation
- Design and implement semi-automatic and automatic assembly stations.
- Develop torque-controlled assembly systems.
- Introduce error-proofing and traceability systems.
- Improve assembly ergonomics and reduce operator fatigue.
Manufacturing Engineering Projects
- Prepare project feasibility studies and ROI calculations.
- Develop project specifications and technical requirements.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers, automation integrators, and internal teams.
- Ensure timely execution of automation projects within budget.
Knowledge & Skills required
- 5 to 15 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Automation.
- Experience in Automotive OEMs, Automotive Tier-1 Suppliers, Capital Goods Manufacturing, Machine Tool Industry, or Industrial Machinery Manufacturing.
- Proven experience in implementing automation projects in:
- CNC Machining
- Fabrication and Welding
- Sheet Metal Processing
- Assembly Operations
- Material Handling Systems
- Strong exposure to Low-Cost Automation (LCA) and Productivity Improvement Projects.
- Experience of setting processes, developing process documents and achieving desired quality, cost and cycle time
Other abilities:
- Required Leadership skill to handle the team
- Good planning skills
Knowledge of process capabilities methods and calculation
Educational Qualification: B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical, Production, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
Additional certification in Automation, Robotics, Industry 4.0, PLC Programming, or Lean Manufacturing will be preferred.
