Job summary

Plansee Group CERATIZIT India seeks a senior Design & Development Lead for CNC cutting tools—from concept to product launch. You will mentor the design team and collaborate with Production, Applications, Quality and Sales to deliver customer-focused tooling solutions.

Requirements: Mechanical/Tool Engineering degree, 8–10 years in CNC tool design with 2–3 years in leadership; strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, UG NX, AutoCAD). Occasional travel for customer visits and tooling trials expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Tool Engineering, or related discipline.
• 8-10 years in CNC Cutting Tool Design & Development, with 2-3 years in leadership.
• Strong experience in designing Solid Carbide, Indexable, and Special Purpose Tools for metal cutting.
• Solid knowledge of metal cutting principles, machining processes, tool geometry, carbide grades, coatings, grinding, and GD&T.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, UG NX, AutoCAD, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of CNC cutting tools from concept to product launch.
• Develop optimized tool geometries and innovative tooling solutions to improve machining performance and tool life.
• Collaborate with Production, Application Engineering, Quality, and Sales to deliver customer-specific tooling solutions.
• Review and approve design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation while ensuring quality standards.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the Design team and drive technical excellence.
• Conduct feasibility studies, tooling evaluations, and provide technical support for customer trials.
• Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and efficient production processes.
• Drive continuous improvement, manage multiple design projects, and monitor industry trends.
• Maintain engineering records and design databases as per company requirements.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the design and development of CNC cutting tools, including Solid Carbide, Indexable, and Special Purpose Tools, from concept to product launch.
• Develop optimized tool geometries and innovative tooling solutions to improve machining performance, productivity, and tool life.
• Collaborate with Production, Application Engineering, Quality, and Sales teams to deliver customer-specific tooling solutions.
• Review and approve design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation while ensuring compliance with quality and engineering standards.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the Design team, establishing best practices and driving technical excellence.
• Conduct feasibility studies, tooling evaluations, root cause analysis, and provide technical support for customer trials and applications.
• Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure design manufacturability and efficient production processes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, manage multiple design projects, and monitor industry trends to support innovation and new product development.
• Maintain engineering records, project reports, and design databases as per company requirements.

PROFILE & REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Tool Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8-10 years of experience in CNC Cutting Tool Design & Development, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
• Strong experience in designing Solid Carbide Tools, Indexable Tools, and Special Purpose Tools for metal cutting applications.
• Sound knowledge of metal cutting principles, machining processes, tool geometry, carbide grades, coatings, grinding processes, and GD&T.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, UG NX, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
• Proven experience in product development, project management, tooling performance improvement, and team leadership.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of ERP systems; SAP exposure and familiarity with Lean Manufacturing practices will be an added advantage.
• Willingness to travel for customer visits, technical discussions, and tooling trials as required.
