Job summary

Universal Education seeks a Learning Support Specialist to collaborate with learners, teachers, families, and the school community in an IB environment. The role focuses on identifying diverse learning needs, providing targeted support, and deploying inclusive strategies to help students access the curriculum and develop independence.

The specialist will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, and will contribute to a culture of inclusion and learner wellbeing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Education, Learning Disabilities, or related field.
• Experience in school-based learning support or inclusion roles is preferred.
• Experience developing IEPs and conducting learner observations.
• Familiarity with IB/PYP framework and inclusive education practices is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assess learners who may benefit from additional learning support through observations and data analysis.
• Develop, implement, and review IEPs and individualised support plans with teachers, parents, and professionals.
• Provide individual, small-group, and in-class support based on learner needs and goals.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop differentiated learning experiences and accommodations.
• Monitor learner progress and document interventions, goals, and outcomes.
• Support learners in academic, communication, social-emotional, and functional skills.
• Work with parents and external professionals (OTs, SLPs, psychologists, counsellors).
• Contribute to inclusion culture and learner agency aligned with IB approaches to learning.
• Share strategies and resources to build teacher capacity in diverse learning needs.
• Participate in parent meetings, case discussions, admissions observations, and multidisciplinary meetings.

Job description

The Learning Support Specialist works collaboratively with learners, teachers, families, and the wider school community to ensure that diverse learning needs are identified and appropriately supported. The role involves providing targeted and individualised support, developing inclusive learning strategies, and enabling learners to access the curriculum, develop independence, and reach their potential within an IB learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess learners who may benefit from additional learning support through classroom observations, informal assessments, and analysis of learner data.
• Develop, implement, and regularly review IEPs and individualised support plans in collaboration with teachers, parents, and relevant professionals.
• Provide individual, small-group, and in-class support based on learner needs and identified goals.
• Collaborate with Homeroom and Subject Teachers to develop differentiated learning experiences, appropriate accommodations, and effective classroom strategies.
• Monitor learner progress and maintain clear documentation of interventions, goals, and outcomes.
• Support learners in developing academic, communication, social-emotional, executive functioning and functional skills, as appropriate to their individual profile.
• Work in partnership with parents and external professionals such as Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, and Counsellors.
• Contribute to a culture of inclusion, learner agency, independence, and belonging, aligned with IB philosophy and approaches to learning.
• Support teacher capacity-building through sharing strategies, resources, and professional learning related to diverse learning needs.
• Participate in relevant parent meetings, case discussions, admissions observations, transition planning, and multidisciplinary meetings.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Education, Learning Disabilities, or a related field.
• Education preferred. Prior experience in a school-based learning support or inclusion role.
• Experience developing IEPs, conducting learner observations, and implementing individualised interventions.
• Familiarity with the IB/PYP framework and inclusive education practices is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of inclusive education and differentiated instruction.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
