BMW TechWorks India Private Limited in Pune is seeking a Lead engineer - Corrosion and Durability to drive corrosion protection and durability engineering for future BMW vehicles.

You will collaborate with global teams, contribute to materials, coatings and validation methods, and work with design, testing and suppliers to mitigate corrosion risks and ensure premium vehicle quality.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Automotive Engineering or related field.
• 6–12 years of experience in automotive durability, corrosion engineering, materials engineering or vehicle validation.
• Strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms, material behavior, protective coatings and durability principles.
• Experience in vehicle development, laboratory testing, field analysis and root cause investigation.
• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, joining technologies, sealing systems and corrosion prevention techniques.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management; very good English; German is an advantage.
• Ability to work with global engineering teams and suppliers.

• Work closely with design, simulation, testing, manufacturing, suppliers, and quality teams to identify and mitigate corrosion and durability risks.

What should you bring along

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.


• Minimum 6 to 12 years of experience in automotive durability, corrosion engineering, materials engineering, or vehicle validation.


• Strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms, material behavior, protective coatings, and durability engineering principles.


• Experience in vehicle development, laboratory testing, field analysis, and root cause investigation.


• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, joining technologies, sealing systems, and corrosion prevention techniques.


• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.


• Very good English language skills (German language is an advantage).


• Ability to work effectively with global engineering teams and suppliers

Must have technical skill

• Strong knowledge of automotive corrosion engineering, durability validation, and material performance assessment.


• Experience with corrosion prevention technologies including coatings, galvanization, sealing systems, e-coat, paint systems, and surface treatments.


• Hands-on experience in environmental and accelerated corrosion testing such as:

• Knowledge of durability validation methodologies, test planning, and failure mode analysis.


• Experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions related to corrosion, fatigue, wear, and material degradation.


• Understanding material selection, joining technologies, galvanic corrosion, and structural durability requirements.


• Experience with CAD and PLM systems (CATIA, Teamcenter or equivalent).


• Ability to drive cross-functional technical discussions and support vehicle development programs through design reviews and validation assessments.

Good to have Technical skills

• Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and durability simulations.


• Experience with fatigue life prediction and structural durability assessment methods.


• Understanding of automotive standards and test specifications related to corrosion and durability.


• Experience with laboratory equipment and material characterization techniques.


• Knowledge of lightweight materials such as aluminum, magnesium, composites, and their corrosion behavior.


• Familiarity with BMW, German OEM, or premium automotive development processes.


• Experience in supplier quality and manufacturing process validation.


• Project management and technical lead experience in global vehicle programs.
