Job Description
Role
- You will shape the future BMW vehicle dynamics, safety, and chassis performance by developing Wheel Carrier systems for passenger vehicles.
- You will contribute to the design and development of front and rear Wheel Carriers across global vehicle platforms.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and release documentation for wheel carriers and associated interfaces.
- Support concept development, package studies, design optimization, prototype builds, validation activities, and production implementation.
- Collaborate with Wheels & Tires, Vehicle Dynamics, CAE, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Testing, and Supplier Engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with performance, durability, safety, lightweight, cost, and manufacturing requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Support engineering change management, issue resolution, and continuous improvement activities from concept through series production.
What should you bring along
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 8-12 years of experience in automotive Wheel Carrier and wheel-end component development for passenger cars.
- Strong understanding of wheel-end architecture and suspension integration.
- Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in suspension or steering system development.
- Knowledge of automotive design standards, engineering release processes, and product development methodologies.
- Experience in cross-functional and global vehicle development programs.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in English; German language skills are an added advantage.
Must have technical skill
- Design and development of Wheel Carriers it related component
- Strong understanding of wheel carrier architecture and load path management.
- Expertise in wheel carrier geometry definition and packaging optimization.
- Experience in aluminum cast, forged aluminum, cast iron, steel, and hybrid wheel carrier designs.
- Knowledge of wheel carrier interfaces with: Wheels & Tires, BIW.
- Knowledge of stress concentration control and lightweight optimization methods.
- Understanding of component failure modes and robustness improvement techniques.
- Develop and maintain validation plans and engineering specifications.
- Conduct root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Support prototype, pre-series, and production validation activities.
- Develop detailed CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and release documentation.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and interface management.
- Create and maintain component specifications and design standards.
- Conduct design reviews and technical feasibility assessments.
- Manage engineering changes throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Experience in Design for Assembly (DFA).
Good to have Technical skills
- CATIA V5/V6 Part Design, Assembly Design, GSD, and Drafting.
- Teamcenter, ENOVIA, or equivalent PLM systems.
- GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up Analysis.
- DFMEA, DVP methodologies.
- Root Cause Analysis, 8D, Six Sigma, and Problem-Solving tools.
- Supplier Management and Technical Coordination.
- Cost Optimization and Value Engineering.
