Role
Lead Engineer- Brake Discs and Brake Hoses (Passenger Car)
- You will shape the future BMW vehicles dynamics by bringing brake systems to life through precise CAD modelling, Concept and engineering execution.
- You will contribute to the design & development of advanced brake systems including brake discs, brake hoses, and wheel-end integration components.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for brake system components and sub-systems.
- Support concept development, design optimization, prototype builds, validation, and production implementation activities.
- Ensure compliance with performance, durability, safety, cost, weight, and manufacturing requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
What should you bring along
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- 8-12 years of experience in automotive brake system design and development with specific focus on Brake Discs and Brake Hoses. ?
- Knowledge of automotive design standards, engineering release processes, and product development methodologies.
- Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in wheel product development.
- Proactive, teamwork-oriented mindset with the ability to operate in a matrix environment.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in English, additional German language skills are an advantage.
Must have technical skill
- Experience in designing and developing Brake Discs, Brake Hoses and its component
- Strong understanding of wheel-end packaging, brake clearances, wheel-brake interfaces, and suspension integration.
- Design and development of ventilated, solid, drilled, slotted, and lightweight brake discs/rotors.
- Strong understanding of brake disc thermal performance, heat dissipation, cooling airflow, and thermal distortion.
- Experience with rotor material selection including grey cast iron, high-carbon cast iron, coated rotors, and lightweight solutions.
- Knowledge of brake judder, DTV (Disc Thickness Variation), hot spotting, crack initiation, and wear mechanisms.
- Understanding of wheel-brake clearance, caliper-disc interface, and wheel-end packaging requirements.
- Design and development of hydraulic brake hoses, flexible brake lines, fittings, banjo connections, brackets, retainers, and routing solutions.
- Knowledge of hose burst pressure requirements, fatigue performance, vibration resistance, and environmental durability.
- Experience in vehicle-level hose routing considering suspension travel, steering articulation, assembly requirements, and serviceability.
- Understanding of brake fluid compatibility, corrosion protection, and sealing technologies.
- Ensure brake system compliance with vehicle safety, regulatory, and homologation requirements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, machining, sheet metal, stamping, and welding.
- Support vehicle-level brake performance targets including stopping distance, brake feel, pedal effort, thermal performance, and stability.
- Develop detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and component specifications.
- Perform GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design validation reviews.
- Investigate validation failures and field issues through structured root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Review supplier designs, technical deliverables, and manufacturing feasibility studies.
- Support DFM, DFA, and production launch activities.
- Drive value engineering, cost optimization, and supplier development initiatives.
- Manage engineering changes through ECR/ECO processes.
- Coordinate with Vehicle Dynamics, CAE, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Testing, Quality, and Program Management teams.
Good to have Technical skills
- CATIA V5 Part Design, Assembly Design, Generative Shape Design (GSD), and Drafting expertise.
- Exposure to Brake CAE, Thermal Analysis, Durability Analysis, and Structural Simulations.
- Exposure to supplier management, technical reviews, and global vehicle platform programs.

- Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving

- Experience with EV and Hybrid Vehicle Brake Systems.
- Knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, AIS, and global braking regulations.
- Experience working in global automotive development programs.
