Job Description

The Intensivist is responsible for managing critically ill patients, providing comprehensive intensive care, coordinating multidisciplinary treatment, and ensuring timely interventions for patients with life-threatening conditions.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage critically ill patients in the ICU.
  • Develop and implement individualized critical-care treatment plans.
  • Monitor vital signs, hemodynamic status, and clinical progress.
  • Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation and other organ-support therapies.
  • Perform or supervise critical-care procedures as per expertise.
  • Manage medical emergencies, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Coordinate with specialists, surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing teams.
  • Review laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic investigations.
  • Adjust treatment plans based on patient response and clinical findings.
  • Communicate patient condition and treatment plans to families.
  • Lead ICU rounds and multidisciplinary clinical discussions.
  • Ensure adherence to infection-control and patient-safety protocols.
  • Monitor appropriate use of antibiotics, medications, and critical-care resources.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ICU records.
  • Participate in mortality reviews, clinical audits, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Support implementation of ICU protocols, SOPs, and accreditation standards.
  • Guide junior doctors and critical-care staff.
  • Respond promptly to emergency deterioration and code situations.
  • Participate in teaching, training, and continuing medical education.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the ICU Head or Medical Director.
