Designation: NPD Head – New Product Development
Department: NPD
Reporting To: Director
Job Purpose
To lead and manage end-to-end New Product Development activities from RFQ, feasibility and product development through prototype, validation, PPAP and successful handover to mass production, ensuring customer requirements, quality, cost and delivery targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the complete NPD lifecycle from RFQ to SOP / mass production.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, RFQs and technical requirements.
- Conduct technical and manufacturing feasibility studies.
- Coordinate with Design, Tool Room, Production, Quality, Purchase and Suppliers.
- Prepare and monitor APQP timelines, project plans and NPD milestones.
- Drive DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Flow, MSA and PPAP activities.
- Coordinate prototype development, tooling, fixtures, gauges and trial activities.
- Monitor product trials, validation, testing and customer approvals.
- Ensure smooth transfer of new products from development to mass production.
- Coordinate with customers/OEMs for technical discussions, drawings, changes and approvals.
- Monitor project cost, tooling cost, development cost and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during development and pre-production stages.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
- Lead Engineering Change / ECN implementation and ensure proper documentation.
- Prepare NPD MIS, project status reports and management review presentations.
- Drive continuous improvement, value engineering, Kaizen and process optimization.
- Lead, mentor and develop the NPD team.
- Ensure projects are completed within defined Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) targets.
Required Qualification
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Experience
- 7–8 years of relevant experience in NPD / Product Development / Manufacturing Engineering.
- Experience in the Automotive / Auto Ancillary / Engineering industry preferred.
- Experience in handling OEM customers and new product launches preferred.
