Qualifications

• B.Tech/B.E./Diploma in Food Technology, Production, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
• Bakery / FMCG background value in food manufacturing preferred.
• Experience in high-speed biscuit production lines is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage and monitor daily/monthly production as per business requirements.
• Ensure achievement of production targets in terms of volume, quality, yield and productivity.
• Monitor biscuit manufacturing processes including mixing, dough preparation, forming, baking, cooling, cream/sandwiching, packing and dispatch.
• Ensure compliance with company quality standards and food safety requirements.
• Coordinate with Engineering/Maintenance teams to maximize machine availability and minimize downtime.
• Lead and manage plant workforce across production, quality, engineering, warehouse and packaging.

Job Description Factory Manager

Designation: Factory Manager / Plant Manager
Department: Manufacturing / Operations
Location: Amta, Howrah

Reporting To: Business Head / Director

Job Purpose

To manage and lead the overall operations of the biscuit manufacturing plant, ensuring production efficiency, product quality, cost control, manpower productivity, safety, hygiene, statutory compliance and timely dispatch.

The Factory Manager will be responsible for achieving production targets while maintaining high standards of quality, food safety, productivity, equipment efficiency and operational discipline.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Production & Plant Operations

• Plan, manage and monitor daily/monthly production as per business requirements.
• Ensure achievement of production targets in terms of volume, quality, yield and productivity.
• Monitor biscuit manufacturing processes including mixing, dough preparation, forming, baking, cooling, cream/sandwiching, packing and dispatch.

2. Quality & Food Safety

• Ensure compliance with company quality standards and food safety requirements.
• Work closely with QA/QC to maintain consistent product quality.
• Monitor critical parameters such as weight, moisture, texture, colour, dimensions, baking parameters and packaging quality.

3. Cost & Productivity Management

• Control manufacturing costs through effective utilization of RM, PM, manpower, power, fuel and other resources.
• Monitor and reduce production wastage, rework, rejection and material losses.
• Analyze production cost and identify opportunities for cost reduction.

4. Maintenance & Engineering Coordination

• Coordinate with Engineering/Maintenance teams to ensure maximum machine availability.
• Monitor preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
• Minimize machine breakdowns and production downtime.

5. Manpower Management

• Lead and manage the plant workforce including production, quality, engineering, warehouse, packing and contract manpower.
• Plan manpower requirements based on production capacity and shift requirements.
• Monitor attendance, productivity, discipline and performance.

6. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all applicable factory, labour, fire, safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
• Promote a strong safety culture across the plant.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure closure of safety observations.

7. Planning & Coordination

• Coordinate with SCM/Planning for availability of raw materials, packaging materials and finished goods requirements.
• Ensure production plans are aligned with sales and dispatch requirements.
• Monitor inventory levels and minimize excess/slow-moving materials.

8. MIS & KPI Management

Prepare and review regular plant performance reports covering:

• Production vs. plan, Line efficiency / OEE, Yield and process loss
• RM & PM wastage, Machine downtime, Manpower productivity
• Energy consumption, Rejection and rework, Quality deviations

9. Continuous Improvement

• Drive initiatives related to Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, waste reduction and productivity improvement.
• Identify bottlenecks and improve production processes.
• Benchmark plant performance against industry standards.

Education:

• B.Tech/B.E./Diploma in Food Technology, Production, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
• Bakery / FMCG background only.

Experience:

• 20–25 years of experience in manufacturing/plant operations.
• Minimum 15 years in a Factory/Plant Manager or equivalent senior operations role.
• Candidates from Biscuit, Bakery, Confectionery or Food Manufacturing industries preferred.

Candidate Should be from maintenance background, Experience with high-speed automatic biscuit production lines and packing operations will be an added advantage.
