Job summary

JobItUs in India is seeking an Estimator – Skids, Piping & Spools with ~6 years of experience to drive pre-bid costing for modular skid systems, piping, spools, and related fabrications in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and Fertiliser sectors.

You will analyze drawings, prepare material take-offs, calculate weights and fabrication costs, and coordinate with vendors while supporting technical and commercial tender documents under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience in estimation and costing of modular skids and piping systems.

Responsibilities

• Analyze structural blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and GA drawings to prepare accurate Material Take-Offs.
• Perform weight calculations for piping networks, frames, plates, spools, and machined parts.
• Calculate fabrication and assembly costs by accounting for raw materials, fittings, welds, machining hours, and NDT requirements.
• Float inquiries to vendors to secure competitive pricing for piping components and surface treatments.

Job Purpose

The Estimator – Skids, Piping & Spools will be responsible for preparing accurate material take-offs, weight calculations, and comprehensive cost evaluations for modular systems. This role focuses on executing precise pre-bid costing of skids, complex process piping, spools, and structural assemblies for the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and Fertiliser sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Costing & Material Take-Offs

• Analyze structural blueprints, isometric drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and General Arrangement (GA) drawings to prepare highly accurate Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
• Perform precise weight calculations for piping networks, structural frames, plates, spools, and individual machined parts.
• Calculate total fabrication and assembly costs by accounting for raw materials, fittings, structural steel, weld consumables, machining hours, and non-destructive testing (NDT) requirements.

Vendor Coordination & Bid Support

• Float inquiries to vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing for specialized piping components, instrumentation, valves, and specialized surface treatments.
• Evaluate vendor quotes technically and commercially to build cost structures aligned with project budgets.
• Support the Head of Estimation in compiling final technical and commercial proposal documents under tight tender deadlines.

Cross-Functional Alignment

• Work alongside the Design Engineering team to clarify technical ambiguities, resolve drawing inconsistencies, and verify structural optimization before final pricing.
• Interface with the Procurement and Production teams to factor in live commodity price trends (carbon steel, stainless steel, exotic alloys) and realistic shop-floor fabrication hours.

Required Candidate Profile

Technical & Domain Expertise

• Strong proficiency in reading, interpreting, and breaking down complex engineering drawings, structural layouts, and piping isometric diagrams.
• Hands-on knowledge of the mechanical fabrication industry, including structural welding symbols, assembly line-ups, and structural steel standards.
• Solid understanding of raw material types, grades, schedules, and fittings commonly utilized in high-pressure process piping.

Experience & Education

• ~6 years of core experience in the estimation and costing of modular skids, piping systems, and spools within a heavy engineering or process equipment manufacturing firm.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.

Competencies

• Sharp mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to structural detail.
• High proficiency in using MS Excel and spreadsheets for complex, automated costing models.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal engineering teams and external vendors.
