Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to deliver primary and detailed designs for outdoor switches, substations, and T&D systems up to 400 kV. You will size equipment, prepare specifications, review vendor drawings, and coordinate with global clients.

The role requires hands-on ETAP/SKM experience, proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD, and strong communication skills. Hybrid work in Mumbai is offered with health and leave benefits.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech., M.E. or M.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
• Desirable AIS & GIS substation experience up to 400 kV.
• Experience designing conceptual, FEED and detail T&D systems up to 400 kV for utilities internationally.
• Hands-on use of ETAP and SKM software.
• Proficient in MicroStation, AutoCAD; basic Revit and 3D substation design.
• Strong MS Office skills and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Clear knowledge of work procedures and ability to work independently.
• Deliver drawings to desired quality standards and according to mutually agreed timelines with the client.
• Communicate confidently with clients or foreign counterparts.
• Work in a team to deliver projects on time.
• Attend meetings with technical leads.
• Perform primary design activities: key SLDs, AC/DC SLDs, cable schedules, interconnection schedules, specifications, bulk MTO.
• Apply practical knowledge to design layouts and produce equipment layouts for outdoor switchyard, indoor substation, trench/tray layouts, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection; review from technical/quality perspective.
• Perform equipment sizing calculations for transformers, generators, HV/LV cables, AC UPS, batteries, capacitor banks, conductor sizing, fault level, illumination, earthing, lightning protection.
• Prepare technical specifications and data sheets for electrical equipment such as transformers, DG sets, switchgear, UPS, batteries, chargers, and distribution boards.
• Review vendor drawings and calculations for all electrical equipment.
• Conduct technical bid evaluation and documentation.
• Resolve design issues and coordinate effectively with leads.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members across all design aspects of the project.
• Attend client meetings for technical clarifications and support.

Qualifications & Experience

• BE/Bachelor’s, B.Tech., M.E., M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in primary design; AIS & GIS substation experience up to 400kV is desirable.
• Experience designing conceptual, FEED, and detail T&D systems up to 400kV for utility companies in the Middle East, UK, Australia, and US, based on international standards.
• Hands‑on experience using ETAP and SKM software.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, basic knowledge of Revit and substation 3D design.
• Proficiency in MS Outlook and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong communication and IT skills.
• Ability to work independently and under challenging workloads with short notice changes.
• Clear knowledge of work procedures.
