Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an experienced electrical design engineer in Chennai region for building and infrastructure projects. The role covers concept to detail design, SLDs, layouts, and equipment sizing for transformers, substations, and electrical systems.

You will coordinate with clients, vendors and project leads, ensuring quality drawings and timely delivery. Candidates should have 8+ years in engineering design, familiarity with energy efficiency codes, and overseas project exposure.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in engineering design of building & infrastructure projects including datacenters, substations, hotels, hospitals, and megastructures.
• Hands-on with domestic and international energy efficiency codes and building codes.
• Overseas project experience is an added advantage.
• Design experience at concept, FEED, and detail design stages of electrical systems.

• Deliver drawings to desired quality standards and according to mutually agreed timelines with the client.
• Communicate confidently with client or foreign counterpart and attend meetings with technical leads.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members for all design aspects of the project.
• Prepare technical specifications and data sheets for electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, UPS, batteries).
• Review vendor drawings and calculations for all electrical equipment.
• Monitor installation and ensure smooth operations of all electro‑mechanical services.
• Resolve design issues and coordinate effectively with leads.

Responsibilities

• Clear knowledge of work procedures and ability to work independently.
• Deliver drawings to desired quality standards and according to mutually agreed timelines with the client.

• Work in team to deliver projects on time.
• Attend meetings with technical leads and project leads/Engineers.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members for all design aspects of the project.
• Perform design activities, including SLDs, AC/DC SLDs, layouts, cable schedules, interconnection schedules, specifications, bulk MTO, and design of all electrical works such as internal & external electrification, SITC of electric sub-stations, installation of transformers, air conditioning systems, fire-fighting equipment, fire alarms & detection, lifts, pumps, road lighting, power & control cables, installation of security systems, solar water heating systems, earthing, lightning, containment, indoor lighting systems, etc.
• Perform equipment sizing calculations for transformers, generators, HV/LV cable, AC UPS, battery, capacitor banks, conductor sizing, fault level, illumination, earthing, and lightning protection.
• Apply practical knowledge to design equipment layouts for indoor/outdoor substations, trench/tray layouts, lighting, earthing & lightning protection layouts and review technical/quality perspective.
• Prepare technical specifications and data sheets for electrical equipment such as transformers, DG sets, HT & LT switchgear, compact substations, UPS, battery & battery chargers, distribution boards, lifts, etc.
• Review vendor drawings and calculations for all electrical equipment.
• Conduct technical bid evaluation and documentation.
• Monitor installation and ensure smooth operations and functioning of all electro‑mechanical services.
• Resolve any design issues and coordinate effectively with leads.
• Attend client meetings for technical clarifications.
• Capable of working under challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
• Good communication and IT skills.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, clash detection, Dialux, Amtech, MS Outlook, and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

• 8+ years of experience in engineering design of building & infrastructure projects, including datacenters, substations, hotels, resorts, hospitals, universities, townships, high‑rises, malls & commercial buildings.
• Hands‑on experience with domestic and international energy efficiency codes and building codes.

• Design experience at concept, FEED, and detail design stages of electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design standards and processes.
