Job summary
Yulu is seeking an Engineer II, EV R&D – Field Quality Excellence to own field issues end-to-end, diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, and drive RCA-driven improvements across EV platforms. You will visit workshops and city R&M locations, document issues, and collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Warranty and OEM teams.
The role requires strong RCA capability, hands-on diagnostics, and a deep understanding of EV powertrains.
Qualifications
- BE / B.Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
- 3–5 years of field quality, R&D validation, or product quality experience in EV/auto.
- Strong understanding of EV powertrain and vehicle integration.
- Hands-on field issue diagnosis and RCA capability.
- Familiarity with 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA and Pareto analysis.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and CAN data logs.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.

As an Engineer II, EV R&D – Field Quality Excellence, you will be responsible for field quality, vehicle diagnostics, issue resolution, and Root Cause Analysis across Yulu’s EV platforms.
The role involves conducting field visits to workshops and city R&M locations, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, owning field issues from identification through closure, analysing production and field quality data, and working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Warranty, Procurement, and OEM partner teams.
- Conduct field visits to workshops and city R&M (Repair & Maintenance) locations to observe real-world vehicle performance.
- Capture and document customer-reported issues directly from the field.
- Log structured field issue reports for engineering review, ensuring consistency and completeness.
- Develop and maintain deep working knowledge of the complete EV vehicle architecture, including battery, MCU, motor, wiring harness, CAN bus, braking, suspension, switches and connectors.
- Independently inspect, diagnose and resolve common mechanical and electrical failures.
- Demonstrate clear symptom-to-system-to-root-cause reasoning across all vehicle platforms.
- Own field issues end-to-end — from problem identification, evidence collection and diagnosis through structured RCA, corrective-action recommendation and closure coordination.
- Deliver structured RCA reports within agreed turnaround times.
- Independently manage a pipeline of concurrent investigations, with a target of 10+ per quarter.
- Leverage proprietary diagnostic tools, including telemetry, firmware dashboards and partner applications, for vehicle identification, data correlation and fault investigation.
- Integrate tool-based evidence with physical inspection findings to substantiate root causes in field investigations.
- Consolidate and analyse production, quality, and field repair & maintenance data.
- Track defect trends, production yield and recurring field issues.
- Feed insights back to the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams.
- Author clear, structured RCA reports covering symptom description, evidence summary, testing performed, confirmed root cause, containment actions, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Develop, maintain and update troubleshooting checklists and diagnostic guides to improve team-wide consistency and speed of resolution.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Warranty, Procurement and OEM partner teams to drive issues to closure.
- Maintain action trackers and provide timely status updates to stakeholders.
- Identify recurring failure patterns and lead mechanical and electrical improvement initiatives.
- Drive measurable outcomes such as reduced repeat failures, faster diagnosis times, lower field downtime and elimination of unnecessary part replacements.
- Communicate technical findings, RCA outcomes and SOPs clearly to R&D leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Translate complex failure analysis into actionable insights for product and service improvement.
- Support engineering teams during field trials or pilot rollouts of design/process changes.
- Education: BE / B.Tech in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in field quality, R&D validation, or product quality roles in EV / automotive companies.
- Strong understanding of EV powertrain systems including motor, controller, battery, BMS and vehicle-level integration.
- Hands-on experience in field issue diagnosis, RCA and corrective/preventive action frameworks.
- Working knowledge of quality tools and methodologies including 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA and Pareto analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring harness layouts and CAN data logs.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including Pivot Tables, Charts and VLOOKUP, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with defect tracking systems, field issue databases and structured reporting tools.
- Understanding of production and assembly processes and their impact on downstream field quality.
- Knowledge of vehicle R&M processes and workshop operations.
- Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Willingness to undertake frequent field visits to workshops and city R&M locations.
