Job summary

Jobtailor in Pune seeks a Senior Dimensional Engineer to drive automotive dimensional engineering activities across concept to launch. You will implement GD&T, tolerance analysis, and dimensional quality management, collaborating with Design, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality to meet targets.

You will lead 1D tolerance stack-up analysis, develop control plans, and support fixtures, gauges, and measurement systems while guiding cross-functional teams through APQP/PPAP readiness and launch

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Production, or Automobile engineering.
• 5–8+ years of automotive dimensional engineering or related experience.
• Strong GD&T, datum strategy, locating schemes, and tolerance analysis knowledge.

• Perform dimensional feasibility analysis during concept, design, development, and industrialization phases.
• Develop and maintain dimensional control strategies and control plans.
• Lead GD&T schemes, datum structures, and locating strategies.

Job description

• Perform dimensional feasibility analysis during concept, design, development, and industrialization phases
• Conduct Digital Mock-Up reviews to identify dimensional risks, package constraints, assembly concerns, and manufacturability issues
• Evaluate dimensional performance against engineering requirements, vehicle targets, and manufacturing capability to support design convergence
• Develop and maintain dimensional control strategies and control plans for vehicle systems and assemblies
• Define and drive vehicle-level dimensional quality targets, including Gap & Flush, Flushness, Feature Relationship, and other Perceived Quality requirements
• Collaborate with Product Design, Perceived Quality, BIW, General Assembly Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, Metrology, Plant Launch, Production, and OEM customer teams
• Develop and implement GD&T schemes, datum structures, and locating strategies
• Review engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications for dimensional compliance and manufacturability
• Conduct 1D tolerance stack-up analysis using RSS and Worst-Case methodologies
• Perform tolerance optimization and Cost vs Tolerance trade-off studies
• Define dimensional validation strategies and technical requirements for fixtures, gauges, E-Cube systems, CMMs, and optical measurement systems
• Support fixture concept development, supplier evaluations, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final buy-offs
• Lead fixture correlation, Gauge R&R, MSA, and capability assessments
• Lead dimensional prove-out activities during prototype, pilot, pre-production, SOP, and post-launch phases
• Monitor dimensional performance against PIST targets and dimensional quality objectives
• Drive dimensional issue resolution through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and production readiness assessments
• Analyze dimensional data and evaluate process capability using Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk
• Support supplier dimensional quality reviews, APQP/PPAP activities, dimensional sign-offs, and launch readiness assessments
• Develop dimensional dashboards, reports, and trend analyses for continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in Mechanical, Production, or Automobile
• 5–8+ years of experience in Automotive Dimensional Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Vehicle Integration, or Quality Engineering
• Strong understanding of automotive product development, Body Shop and General Assembly manufacturing processes, and quality systems
• Proven experience in GD&T implementation, datum strategy development, locating scheme definition, dimensional feasibility reviews, tolerance stack-up analysis, process capability assessment, vehicle launch support, and dimensional issue resolution
• Worked on at least 3 new car developments from early design to post-SOP stabilization
• Experience supporting global OEM vehicle programs from concept through production
• Experience with BIW, closures, interiors, exteriors, or vehicle integration systems
• Experience in supplier dimensional quality management
• Experience in prototype, pilot, pre-production, SOP, and launch support activities
• International onsite/customer-facing experience highly desirable
• Certifications in GD&T, Dimensional Engineering, Metrology, Tolerance Analysis, and Six Sigma preferred
• Knowledge of CATIA V5 / 3DEXPERIENCE, Teamcenter / PLM systems, 3DCS, VisVSA or equivalent variation analysis tools, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI
