Job summary

CanKids KidsCan is seeking a Dietitian to provide nutritional care for pediatric oncology patients in Puducherry. You will develop personalized diet plans, counsel families, and coordinate nutrition education as part of the Treatment Support Program (TSP).

The role involves inpatient, outpatient, and ICU nutrition interventions, documentation, and collaboration with the care team. A postgraduate degree in Dietetics/Nutrition and 2–3 years’ experience are preferred.

Department Overview

The Treatment Support Program (TSP) provides comprehensive dietary andnutritional care to pediatric oncology patients. Dietitians and nutritionistswork as part of the holistic care team, creating individualized nutrition plansbased on patients’ medical needs, promoting good dietary health, and raisingawareness about the role of food in health and recovery.

Role Overview

The Dietitian is responsible for developing personalized diet plans forpediatric oncology patients, promoting healthy eating habits, providingcounseling and nutritional assessments, and implementing nutrition-basedinterventions for inpatients, outpatients, and critical care patients. TheDietitian also coordinates education and awareness sessions, contributes tofood distribution, maintains nutrition records, and collaborates in trainingand research activities.

Key Responsibilities
A. Nutrition and Dietary Support
  • Conduct nutritional assessments anddesign tailored meal plans.
  • Administer the Dry NutritionalSupplement Program and ensure proper documentation.
  • Maintain a repository of nutritionaldata and recipes.
B. Hygiene and Health Support
  • Design and display hygiene posters inhospital wards.
  • Plan and implement Health and HygieneKit programs.
  • Coordinate with hospital doctors todevelop health education materials.
  • Support hematological needs includingblood donation camp coordination.
C. Inpatient (IPD) Care
  • Perform baseline nutrition assessmentsfor admitted children.
  • Conduct daily rounds and providepersonalized Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).
  • Calculate dietary requirements (24-hourrecall) and prepare nutrition charts.
  • Counsel patients and caregivers onnutrition and its role in treatment and recovery.
D. Outpatient (OPD) Care
  • Perform nutrition assessments for OPDpatients.
  • Plan diet strategies using 24-hour or7-day recalls.
  • Ensure regular follow-ups and providepreventive nutrition care.
  • Distribute nutritional supplements andmaintain related documentation.
E. ICU Care
  • Conduct daily ICU rounds to assess andmanage critical nutrition needs.
  • Coordinate with ICU teams for managingpatient MNT.
F. Food/Supplement Management
  • Oversee Mid-Day Meal (MDM) distributionand ensure quality, quantity, and hygiene.
  • Coordinate with vendors for fooddelivery and packaging.
  • Modify recipes based on patient needsand seasonality.
  • Identify eligible patients for specialsupplements and manage procurement and distribution with donorcoordination.
G. Education and Training
  • Conduct group education sessions forpatients and caregivers thrice weekly.
  • Organize monthly educational talksduring parent support group meetings.
  • Train new CanKids staff, joiners, andinterns on hospital nutrition processes.
H. Team Collaboration and Administration
  • Participate in monthly CanKids meetingsand prepare reports.
  • Raise indents and coordinate with stafffor supplement distribution.
I. Research and Audits
  • Maintain records ofbaseline nutrition status and interventions.
  • Analyze and presentquarterly nutrition data.
  • Participate inrelevant nutrition-based research and intervention studies.
Other Extended Duties
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned bythe Reporting Manager.
Requirements
RequiredQualifications and Skills

Education: PostGraduation in Dietetics, Nutrition, or relevant field

Experience: 2–3 years in clinical or pediatric dietetics, preferably in hospital or NGO settings
