Job summary

CanKids KidsCan seeks a Social Worker to support children with cancer and their families through admission, treatment planning, and discharge. You will bridge gaps between doctors and families, ensuring access to medicines, lodging, blood support, and psychosocial care.

Primary duties include data entry, coordinating with hospital authorities, and engaging communities through awareness activities. MSW is required with 2–3 years in healthcare settings.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Founded in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, herself a cancer survivor, CanKids KidsCan, the National Society for Change For Childhood Cancer In India partners with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to enable access and best standards of treatment, care and support across 60 cities and 22 states of India.

Catering to childhood cancer patients from primarily underprivileged families, CanKids is present in 141 hospitals across India. Through our signature programYANA (You Are Not Alone)– CanKids provides medical, drugs & diagnostics support, accommodation through Home Away from Homes, , patient transport, blood support, nutrition & rations, education and counselling support.

address the needs of children with cancer and their families. CanKids is dedicated to driving Change for Childhood

Cancer in India with an ambitious goal to achieve Universal health coverage through 100% Access2Care & 100%

Financial Protection by 2030 aligned to the WHO GICC (Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer) and Sustainable

Development Goals, thereby securing the Rights to health, education, childhood, pain-free and palliative care and the

Right to be heard for all children with cancer (0-19 years) in India.

CanKids is the only organization in India working at all levels - grassroots, district, state, and national- and partnering

and supporting hospitals, health authorities and professionals for the last 20 years to improve the quality/standard of

treatment, care, and other holistic support services. Through its 141 CanKids Hospital Support Unit (CHSU) projects,

CanKids ensures access to the best possible care for children with cancer and their families.

The National Outreach Program (NOP) is responsible for enabling quality and equitable access to treatment and care

services for children with cancer across India. Through hospital-based support units and state outreach programs, the

department offers direct services, manages partnerships with healthcare institutions, and drives awareness

initiatives. Social Workers under NOP serve as key enablers of this mission, providing psychosocial support and

facilitating services for children and their families.

Role Overview

The Social Worker plays a vital role in supporting children with cancer and their families through every stage of the

treatment journey. The primary responsibility is to ensure smooth psychosocial transition and resource facilitation

from admission to discharge. The Social Worker also serves as the bridge between doctors and families, coordinates

care activities, manages data and reports, and drives awareness and education at hospital units and local

communities.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate admission and registration of new child patients under CanKids.

Support doctors and families in planning treatment and associated cost estimations.

Bridge communication between medical teams and families.

Ensure support services including medicines, TSPs, lodging, blood, and hygiene awareness are

provided.

Regularly update treatment and support progress in the patient database.

2. Chattai Clinic and Hospital Unit Coordination

Assist in operating Chattai Clinics and running daily CanKids hospital activities.

Liaise with hospital authorities to ensure smooth functioning of assigned CHSUs.

Oversee Parent Support Group (PSG) volunteers and patient-family engagement activities.

3. Documentation & Data Management

Maintain complete and accurate documentation for new patients including ID verification and case

files.

Maintain and update patient databases (PIS/MSF/Salesforce).

Coordinate documentation for government schemes, grants, and external support.

Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for donors, hospital partners, and internal reporting.

Handle unit-level responsibilities including imprest fund management for medicine purchases and

ward requirements.

Administer assigned support programs including Jiv Daya or other donor-linked initiatives.

Track FCRA fund usage and ensure compliance.

Coordinate with the Program Officer and Medical Officer for operational matters.

5. Awareness & Community Engagement

Conduct awareness sessions about childhood cancer in hospital and community settings.

Disseminate the message of “You Are Not Alone” to families and caregivers.

Participate in outreach activities, health camps, or advocacy programs.

Other Extended Duties

Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Reporting Manager.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Education: Masters in Social Work (MSW) from a recognized institution

Experience: 2–3 years in social work, preferably in hospital/healthcare settings

Knowledge/experience in pediatric oncology preferred
