Job summary

CanKids KidsCan, the National Society for Change For Childhood Cancer In India, is seeking a Pediatric Oncology Nurse to deliver compassionate, high‑quality care to children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support clinical protocols, maintain rigorous documentation, and contribute to infection control, education initiatives, and holistic patient support throughout the treatment journey.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in pediatric care and/or oncology nursing; experience in palliative care is highly desirable.
• Competence in safe medication administration and documentation; adherence to institutional chemotherapy protocols.
• Proficient in using electronic health records and standard office software.
• Fluent English; local dialect fluency for patient communication.
• Strong interpersonal and counseling skills with empathy and resilience.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team in fast-paced environments.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and annual assessments in pediatric oncology.
• Adherence to infection control standards including PPE and waste management.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care and counseling to pediatric cancer patients and families.
• Administer chemotherapy and other prescribed medications safely.
• Maintain precise and timely patient records including chemotherapy administration and monitoring.
• Support multidisciplinary team through weekly care planning meetings at DCTH.
• Ensure seamless communication with referring hospitals regarding status and plans.
• Collaborate with outreach teams at DCTH Chattai clinics and centers as required.
• Manage symptom control, wound care, nutrition, and hygiene for pediatric patients.
• Design and facilitate education sessions for patients and parents with the Parent Support Group.
• Partner with social support for holistic counseling during diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life care.
• Contribute to quality improvement to reduce chemotherapy-related complications.

Job Description

Summary:

The Pediatric Oncology Nurse plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. This position is central to ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care across the treatment journey—from diagnosis through to recovery or end-of-life care. The nurse collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, supports clinical protocols, maintains rigorous documentation, and contributes to continuous quality improvement. By fostering strong communication, leading education initiatives, and upholding infection control standards, the nurse enhances patient outcomes, strengthens care coordination, and supports the emotional well-being of patients and caregivers. This role is essential to the mission of delivering holistic, evidence-based pediatric oncology care within a dynamic and supportive healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care, emotional support, and counseling to pediatric cancer patients and their families.
  
• Administer chemotherapy and other prescribed medications safely and accurately.
  
• Maintain precise and timely patient records, including chemotherapy administration, IV site monitoring, pain assessment, and treatment progress.
  
• Support the multidisciplinary team through active participation in weekly care planning meetings at DCTH.
  
• Ensure seamless communication with referring hospitals regarding patient status, treatment plans, and medication details to enhance safety and continuity of care.
  
• Collaborate with outreach teams from DCTH at Chattai clinics and affiliated cancer centers as required.
  
• Manage symptom control, wound care, nutritional support, and hygiene for all pediatric patients.
  
• Design and facilitate patient and parent education sessions in coordination with the Parent Support Group.
  
• Partner with the social support team to provide holistic counseling, including support during diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life care.
  
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, including reducing chemotherapy-related complications such as extravasation, infiltration, and chemo burns.

• Strong command of spoken and written English, along with fluency in the local dialect for effective patient communication.

• Commitment to continuous professional development, including successful completion of annual written and practical assessments in pediatric oncology and chemotherapy.
