Job summary

CanKids KidsCan is seeking a Program Officer to support admission, planning, and coordination for childhood cancer patients. You will bridge communication between medical teams and families and ensure access to medicines, lodging, blood, and nutrition services.

The role requires an MSW with 2–3 years of social work experience, preferably in healthcare, with strong data management and stakeholder coordination skills.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Social Work (MSW) from a recognised institution.
  • 2–3 years of experience in social work, preferably hospital/healthcare settings.
  • Knowledge/experience in pediatric oncology preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate with healthcare teams and beneficiaries.
  • Data management and report writing.
  • Empathy, problem-solving, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Compassionate and patient-centric approach.
  • Stakeholder coordination (internal & external).
  • Teamwork and adaptability.
  • Timely data entry and documentation of patient cases.

Responsibilities

  • Support doctors and families in planning treatment and cost estimations.
  • Bridge communication between medical teams and families.
  • Ensure support services including medicines, lodging, blood, and nutrition are provided.
  • Regularly update treatment and support progress in the patient database.
  • Coordinate documentation for government schemes, grants, and external support.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly donor reports.
  • Oversee hospital activities and PSG volunteers.
  • Conduct awareness sessions about childhood cancer in hospital and community.

Founded in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, herself a cancer survivor, CanKids KidsCan, the National Society for Change For Childhood Cancer In India partners with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to enable access and best standards of treatment, care and support across 60 cities and 22 states of India.

Catering to childhood cancer patients from primarily underprivileged families, CanKids is present in 141 hospitals across India. Through our signature programYANA (You Are Not Alone)– CanKids provides medical, drugs & diagnostics support, accommodation through Home Away from Homes, , patient transport, blood support, nutrition & rations, education and counselling support.

In order to increaseAccess2Care, CanKids has MOUs with 8 state governments asknowledgeandtechnical partnersfor childhood cancer and 16 State Projects Across India.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate admission andregistration of new child patients under CanKids.
  • Support doctors andfamilies in planning treatment and associated cost estimations.
  • Bridge communicationbetween medical teams and families.
  • Ensure support servicesincluding medicines, TSPs, lodging, blood, and hygiene awareness are provided.
  • Regularly update treatmentand support progress in the patient database.
Chattai Clinic andHospital Unit Coordination
  • Assist in operating ChattaiClinics and running daily CanKids hospital activities.
  • Liaise with hospitalauthorities to ensure smooth functioning of assigned CHSUs.
  • Oversee Parent SupportGroup (PSG) volunteers and patient-family engagement activities.
Documentation &Data Management
  • Maintain complete andaccurate documentation for new patients including ID verification and casefiles.
  • Maintain and update patientdatabases (PIS/MSF/Salesforce).
  • Coordinate documentationfor government schemes, grants, and external support.
  • Prepare monthly andquarterly reports for donors, hospital partners, and internal reporting.
  • Handle unit-levelresponsibilities including imprest fund management for medicine purchases andward requirements.
  • Administer assigned supportprograms including Jiv Daya or other donor-linked initiatives.
  • Track FCRA fund usage andensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with the ProgramOfficer and Medical Officer for operational matters.
Awareness &Community Engagement
  • Conduct awareness sessionsabout childhood cancer in hospital and community settings.
  • Disseminate the message of“You Are Not Alone” to families and caregivers.
  • Participate in outreachactivities, health camps, or advocacy programs.
Other Extended Duties
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned bythe Reporting Manager.
Requirements

RequiredQualifications and Skills:
