Job summary

CanKids KidsCan seeks a Social Worker for the National Outreach Program in Chandigarh. The role ensures psychosocial support for children with cancer and their families, guiding them from admission through discharge while coordinating care and resources.

The incumbent will document cases, liaise with hospital teams, manage data in PIS/MSF/Salesforce, and contribute to awareness activities and donor reporting. MSW with 2–3 years hospital experience is required, travel up to 50% is expected.

Department Overview

The National Outreach Program (NOP) is responsible for enabling qualityand equitable access to treatment and care services for children with canceracross India. Through hospital-based support units and state outreach programs,the department offers direct services, manages partnerships with healthcareinstitutions, and drives awareness initiatives. Social Workers under NOP serveas key enablers of this mission, providing psychosocial support andfacilitating services for children and their families.

Role Overview

The Social Worker plays a vital role in supporting children with cancerand their families through every stage of the treatment journey. The primaryresponsibility is to ensure smooth psychosocial transition and resourcefacilitation from admission to discharge. The Social Worker also serves as thebridge between doctors and families, coordinates care activities, manages dataand reports, and drives awareness and education at hospital units and localcommunities.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Services & Support Coordination
  • Facilitate admission andregistration of new child patients under CanKids.
  • Support doctors andfamilies in planning treatment and associated cost estimations.
  • Bridge communicationbetween medical teams and families.
  • Ensure support servicesincluding medicines, TSPs, lodging, blood, and hygiene awareness are provided.
  • Regularly update treatmentand support progress in the patient database.
Chattai Clinic andHospital Unit Coordination
  • Assist in operating ChattaiClinics and running daily CanKids hospital activities.
  • Liaise with hospitalauthorities to ensure smooth functioning of assigned CHSUs.
  • Oversee Parent SupportGroup (PSG) volunteers and patient-family engagement activities.
Documentation &Data Management
  • Maintain complete andaccurate documentation for new patients including ID verification and casefiles.
  • Maintain and update patientdatabases (PIS/MSF/Salesforce).
  • Coordinate documentationfor government schemes, grants, and external support.
  • Prepare monthly andquarterly reports for donors, hospital partners, and internal reporting.
Administrative &Financial Responsibilities
  • Handle unit-levelresponsibilities including imprest fund management for medicine purchases andward requirements.
  • Administer assigned supportprograms including Jiv Daya or other donor-linked initiatives.
  • Track FCRA fund usage andensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with the ProgramOfficer and Medical Officer for operational matters.
Awareness &Community Engagement
  • Conduct awareness sessionsabout childhood cancer in hospital and community settings.
  • Disseminate the message of “You Are Not Alone” to families and caregivers.
  • Participate in outreachactivities, health camps, or advocacy programs.
Other Extended Duties
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned bythe Reporting Manager.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Education: Masters in Social Work (MSW) from a recognized institution
  • Experience: 2–3 years in social work, preferably in hospital/healthcaresettings
