Qualifications

• Excellent equipment troubleshooting, project management, and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance of Rotary Kilns, Coolers, and RM Handling Systems.
• Lead equipment installation, erection, and commissioning projects.
• Plan and manage annual shutdowns within budgets.
• Mentor mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
• Negotiate with vendors and optimize spare parts inventory.

A Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Mechanical Engineering for a Sponge Iron Division (SID) oversees all mechanical operations, equipment reliability, and plant maintenance for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) kilns. This is a senior techno-commercial role requiring 10-15+ years of experience in integrated steel or metallurgical plants.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance Management: Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance to ensure maximum availability of Rotary Kilns, Coolers, and Raw Material Handling Systems.
• Project Execution: Manage equipment installation, mechanical erection, and commissioning of new or upgraded production facilities.
• Shutdown Planning: Strategically plan and execute annual shutdowns within allocated budgets and timelines.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians to drive operational excellence and safety protocols.
• Vendor Management: Negotiate with equipment vendors, manage spare parts inventory, and optimize maintenance costs.

• Education: B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may be considered with extensive experience).
