Job Purpose:
To carry out mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, breakdown maintenance and preventive maintenance of equipment used in Furnace, Kiln Operations, RMP and DRI sections of Ferro Alloys and Sponge Iron plants, ensuring reliable and safe plant operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Work on equipment associated with Furnace operations, Kiln operations, RMP and DRI plants.
- Carry out installation, dismantling, alignment and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Attend breakdowns and troubleshoot mechanical failures to minimize equipment downtime.
- Perform maintenance of conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, rollers, couplings, shafts, pumps, fans/blowers and other rotating equipment.
- Conduct inspection and replacement of worn-out components such as bearings, seals, belts, chains and couplings.
- Perform basic fabrication, cutting, grinding and fitting work as required.
- Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of kiln and furnace-related mechanical systems.
- Carry out maintenance of raw material handling equipment (RMP) including conveyors, crushers, screens and material-feeding systems.
- Support maintenance activities in DRI/Sponge Iron plant equipment.
- Ensure proper lubrication, tightening, alignment and condition monitoring of equipment.
- Follow maintenance schedules, safety procedures, PPE requirements and permit-to-work systems.
- Coordinate with Shift In-charge/Engineers during planned and emergency maintenance activities.
- Maintain maintenance records and report abnormalities or recurring equipment problems.
Required Skills:
- Good knowledge of mechanical fitting and maintenance practices.
- Hands-on experience in Furnace and Kiln operations/maintenance.
- Experience in RMP and DRI/Sponge Iron plant maintenance will be preferred.
- Knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, couplings, shafts and rotating equipment.
- Ability to read basic mechanical drawings and understand equipment layouts.
- Good troubleshooting and breakdown-handling skills.
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices and maintenance procedures.
Qualification:
ITI Fitter / Mechanical Trade
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may also be considered for suitable candidates.
Experience:
2–8 years of relevant experience in Ferro Alloys, Sponge Iron, DRI or Integrated Steel Plant.
Preferred Candidate:
Candidates with practical hands-on experience in Furnace, Kiln, RMP and DRI maintenance will be given preference.
