Job summary

JobItUs seeks a Deputy General Manager (Mechanical) to lead all maintenance and operations for Direct Reduced Iron plants. The role requires 10 to 15+ years of hands-on experience in sponge iron or integrated steel. You will guide maintenance strategies and team performance for reliability and safety.

You will plan shutdowns, coordinate erection and commissioning of upgrades, and drive cost-effective maintenance in a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications

• 10 to 15+ years of hands-on experience in the Sponge Iron (SID) or integrated steel sector.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech).
• Expert-level knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, rotary kilns, gearboxes, and interpreting technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead complete mechanical maintenance for rotary kilns, coolers, RMHS, conveyors, crushers, and screens.
• Develop and implement preventive, preventive, and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize plant availability and minimize downtime.
• Analyze root causes of recurring equipment failures and drive long-term corrective actions and modifications.
• Plan and execute major annual or planned plant shutdowns within budgets and timeframes.
• Manage mechanical erection, equipment installation, and commissioning for new or upgraded facilities.
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
• Negotiate with equipment vendors, manage spare parts inventory, and optimize overall maintenance costs.
• Ensure strict adherence to statutory standards, ISO regulations, and internal OHSAS safety protocols.

Overview

Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Mechanical (DRI) is a senior techno-commercial role that leads all mechanical maintenance and operations for Direct Reduced Iron (Sponge Iron) plants. The ideal candidate requires 10 to 15+ years of experience in heavy metallurgical industries.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance Management & Reliability: Lead complete mechanical maintenance for rotary kilns, coolers, raw material handling systems (RMHS), conveyors, crushers, and screens.
• Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize plant availability and minimize downtime.
• Analyze root causes of recurring equipment failures and drive long-term corrective actions and modifications.
• Shutdown & Project Execution: Strategically plan and execute major annual or planned plant shutdowns within allocated budgets and strict timeframes.
• Shutdown & Project Execution: Manage mechanical erection, equipment installation, and commissioning for new or upgraded production facilities.
• Team & Vendor Management: Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
• Team & Vendor Management: Negotiate with equipment vendors, manage spare parts inventory, and optimize overall maintenance costs.
