Job summary

Tata Technologies in Pune, India seeks a Lead Engineer to own the delivery of automotive exterior closure components such as fuel filler flap, charge bowl, doors and hoods, coordinating with cross-functional teams globally. The role requires strong CAD skills (CATIA V5/V6) and solid project leadership within automotive programs.

Required experience includes 8–12 years in product engineering, closure systems, supplier liaison, and use of quality tools like FMEA and Six Sigma.

Qualifications

• Proven project management capability with on-time, cost and quality delivery.
• Experience in development/integration of automotive closure components.
• Engineering knowledge of defined components/systems design and production needs.
• Liaise with supplier, manufacturing, CAE & validation teams.
• CAD data generation and CATIA V5/V6 mastery.
• Strong experience in FMEA, Six Sigma and problem resolution.
• Delivery history in the automotive sector.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commodity management for exterior closure components.
• Establish teamwork plan and define work priorities.
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams across international locations.
• Support vehicle launches and pre-production builds.
• Coordinate prototype part delivery to verify assembly function.
• Manage APQP documents and cost/timing reviews with suppliers.
• Ensure sub-systems meet durability, thermal, weight and cost targets.
• Apply GD&T, DVP, DFMEA, PPIR as applicable.

Job description

Scope of Role

The Lead Engineer is decision making responsible person with leadership skills to deliver the Commodity with defined Attributes, Cost, and Timing, by Management of Commodity, Process, Suppliers, and all other stake holder & Cross functional team.

Area of Responsibility

• Good Knowledge of Product Design, of Automotive Exterior Lids/ Closure Components Like Fuel Filler Flap, Charge bowl, Doors, Tailgates, Hoods & their Materials, Manufacturing Process & Tooling Concepts
• Should have knowledge of Automotive Exterior Regulations & Packaging Requirements.
• Should be able to establish teamwork plan & define priority of work.
• Must have experience in Quality Control tools like GD&T DVA, DVP, DFMEA, PPIR.
• Ensure sub-system meets attribute requirements, Durability, Thermal, Weight, Cost etc.
• Should be able to Support vehicle launch and pre-production builds.
• Need to support on Prototype part Delivery to confirm Assembly Function or Commodity Validation.
• Should be able to communicate effectively with cross functional teams across international locations.
• Hands of Experience on Catia V5/V6 & Team Centre.
• Knowledge of Problem-solving Techniques, Root cause analysis will be preferred.
• Experience in Supplier management like APQP documents, Cost & timing Reviews will be preferred.
• Experience in OEM to lead commodity will be an added advantage.
• Experience in Carbon Fibre Commodity will be an added advantage.
• Ensures the delivery of exceptional customer service.
• Demonstrates and fosters a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals.
• Identifies and analyses information to make decisions and solve problems.

Knowledge / Experience 8 to 12 Years

Essential:

• Proven project management capability demonstrated by recent delivery in line with time, Cost, quality & attribute targets
• Proven experience in development and/or integration of at least one and preferably more on Automotive Closure Components like Charge bowl, Fuel Filler bowl & Flap, Doors, Hoods, Tailgates etc.
• Engineering knowledge of defined component(s) / system(s) design, function, performance, production & manufacturing requirements,
• Liaise with supplier, Manufacturing, CAE& Validation Teams.
• CAD Literacy: Ability to generate CAD data and Master sections in CATIA V5/V6.
• Significant experience in use of engineering tools FMEA, Six Sigma, problem resolution etc.
• Successful history of delivery within the automotive sector.

Skills:

• Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, adapting style to suit different audiences.
• In-depth functional knowledge of Closure system.
• CAD Literacy: Ability to generate CAD data and Master sections in CATIA V5/V6
• PC Literacy: Microsoft Project, Power Point, Excel, Word etc.
