Job description

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer with 46 years of experience in product design and engineering, preferably in the instrument manufacturing, industrial equipment, or precision engineering industry. The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing components and assemblies, preparing engineering drawings and BOMs, supporting production, and ensuring designs meet functional, quality, and manufacturing requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical/electromechanical components, assemblies, and instrument enclosures as per product requirements.
  • Prepare detailed 2D engineering drawings, 3D models, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Develop and maintain BOMs, part specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Review designs for functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Production, Purchase, Quality, Service, and R&D teams for design and product-related requirements.
  • Provide design support for new product development, modifications, and existing product improvements.
  • Analyse design-related issues arising during manufacturing, assembly, testing, or field installation and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Select suitable materials, components, fasteners, and standard parts based on application requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors for development of fabricated, machined, sheet-metal, plastic, and other components.
  • Review vendor drawings and samples and ensure compliance with approved specifications.
  • Participate in prototype development, testing, validation, and design verification.
  • Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain revision control of drawings and documents.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable company standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Support cost reduction, standardisation, and design optimisation initiatives.
  • Maintain proper documentation of design changes, specifications, drawings, and technical records.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks / Creo / Inventor.
  • Good understanding of GD&T, engineering tolerances, fits, surface finishes, and material selection.
  • Knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication, machining, welding, casting, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret and prepare technical drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Understanding of BOM preparation, part numbering, and engineering change management.
  • Basic understanding of electrical/electronic components and their mechanical integration will be an advantage.
  • Good problem-solving and design-analysis skills.

Educational Qualification

  • B.E./B.Tech./Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in product design / mechanical design / instrument or equipment manufacturing.
