Job summary

Neonergy Engineering Private Limited seeks an experienced Solar PV + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Design Engineer to support utility-scale solar and standalone BESS projects. You will develop electrical designs, perform capacity sizing, and coordinate with OEMs and EPC teams across site locations in Bengaluru.

The role requires hands-on experience with PVsyst, AutoCAD, ETAP/PowerFactory, and knowledge of IS/IEC standards, with around 25% travel to project sites and meetings.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical; M.Tech in Electrical or Renewable Energy preferred.
• Experience in utility-scale solar PV design and BESS projects.
• Knowledge of Indian grid codes, IS/IEC standards, and EPC coordination.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for utility-scale solar PV projects.
• Prepare SLDs, layouts, cable sizing, earthing, and protection designs.
• Size transformers, inverters, and HT/LT switchgear and design EC specs.
• Design and review BESS architectures, PCS, BMS, EMS, and SCADA interfaces.
• Coordinate with OEMs, evaluate bids, and ensure grid connectivity compliance.
• Support grid integration studies, power flow, and protection coordination.

We are looking for an experienced Solar PV + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Design Engineer to support the engineering and design of utility-scale solar power plants, standalone BESS projects, and integrated solar-plus-storage projects.

Solar PV Plant Design and Engineering

• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs for utility-scale ground-mounted solar PV projects.
• Prepare and review DC and AC system designs, including module string configurations, inverter sizing, DC/AC ratio, and electrical equipment selection.
• Prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, cable sizing and routing, earthing, lightning protection, and illumination designs.
• Undertake transformer sizing, inverter transformer selection, HT/LT switchgear sizing, and auxiliary power system design.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, equipment datasheets, BOQs, and engineering calculations.
• Conduct solar energy yield assessments and performance simulations using PVsyst or equivalent software.
• Review module, inverter, transformer, switchgear, and other electrical equipment technical submissions.
• Support the design of plant evacuation systems, pooling substations, and grid connectivity arrangements.

2. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Design

• Develop electrical designs for standalone BESS and integrated Solar PV + BESS projects.
• Perform preliminary BESS capacity sizing based on power rating (MW), energy capacity (MWh), discharge duration, operating profile, and project requirements.
• Evaluate battery technologies, battery configuration, PCS/inverter selection, and energy management requirements.
• Design and review BESS electrical architecture, including battery containers, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), transformers, MV switchgear, and auxiliary systems.
• Coordinate the integration of Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and SCADA.
• Evaluate round-trip efficiency, auxiliary consumption, usable energy, depth of discharge, degradation, and augmentation requirements.
• Review BESS supplier proposals, technical specifications, performance guarantees, and system integration requirements.
• Coordinate with OEMs and technology providers on electrical integration, control philosophy, protection, and grid compliance.
• Support the evaluation of battery safety systems, thermal management, fire detection, and fire suppression requirements in coordination with relevant specialists.

3. Grid Integration

• Support power flow, load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and grid compliance studies.
• Coordinate grid synchronization, reactive power management, power factor control, and voltage and frequency response requirements.
• Evaluate system performance against applicable grid codes, utility requirements, and tender specifications.
• Support the technical evaluation of hybrid renewable energy projects involving solar, wind, and BESS, wherever applicable.

4. Technical Skills

• Demonstrated experience in utility-scale solar PV plant design and preferred exposure in High Voltage system up to 230KV/400KV
• Practical knowledge of BESS sizing, electrical integration, PCS , BMS, EMS, and grid interface requirements.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office.
• Working knowledge of PVsyst and electrical design and analysis tools such as ETAP, Power Factory, or equivalent software.
• Familiarity with Indian Electricity Rules, applicable CEA regulations, relevant IS/IEC standards, grid codes, and utility requirements.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, SLDs, layouts, equipment datasheets, and tender documents.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and technical coordination skills.

5. Preferred Experience

• Experience in utility-scale solar projects, preferably > 200 MW.
• Experience in standalone BESS or integrated Solar PV + BESS projects for a capacity > 50MWH
• Exposure to grid-scale BESS, renewable energy integration, and power evacuation systems.
• Experience with EPC contractors, renewable energy developers, engineering consultants, or owners engineering organizations.
• Experience in tender engineering, technical bid evaluation, and coordination with domestic and international OEMs.
