Job summary

COLUMBIA Shipmanagement Ltd. in Kochi, India, is seeking a Crewing Superintendent to oversee crewing activities for the fleet, ensuring safe manning and regulatory compliance. You will coordinate crew changes, training, medicals and travel arrangements to support timely deployments.

The role requires strong English communication, five years of crewing experience and familiarity with STCW, MLC and Flag State requirements, plus proactive process improvement and liaison with owners and vessels.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years crewing experience with vessels.
• Experience with Cable Lay Vessels, AHTS, CSOV or similar vessels is an advantage.
• Seagoing experience as a Deck or Engine Officer is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of STCW, MLC and Flag State requirements.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and monitoring safe manning of all vessels in relation to budget.
• Ensuring Seafarers are trained and qualified per requirements.
• Ensuring Seafarers have medical certificates before joining.
• Conducting crew changes in compliance with SeafarersEmployment Agreement.
• Liaising with vessel, owners and operators on crew changes.
• Arranging and monitoring travel and visa requirements for Seafarers.
• Issuing Seafarer Employment Agreements in line with MLC and Flag State.
• Arranging travel for handover and familiarization.
• Managing expenses with owners as per manning agreement.
• Monitoring crew performance and cadet progress.
• Planning officer and rating rotations; career progression.
• Recruiting for open positions; maintaining management system compliance.
• Contributing to development/amendment of procedures and continual improvement.
• Coordinating training needs and follow-up actions.
• Liaising with parties in case of sickness or accidents.
• Investigating non-conformities and customer complaints.

Job description

We are seeking to recruit aCrewing Superintendentto join our team in Kochi, India.

The Crewing Superintendent is responsible for:

• Reviewing and monitoring the safe manning of all vessels, based on minimum safe manning and special manning requirements in relation to age, trade, type and condition of the vessel as well as in compliance with the agreed vessel’s budget
• Ensuring that all Seafarers are trained and qualified in full compliance with Company’s, STCW and Flag State requirements
• Ensuring that all Seafarers have passed a medical examination performed by a qualified independent medical doctor and obtained a medical certificate before joining a vessel
• Conducting crew changes in compliance with the Seafarers’ Employment Agreement
• Liaising with the vessel, owners and/or operators suitable date/port of crew change
• Arranging and monitoring travel arrangements for Seafarers including visa requirements
• Ensuring that Seafarer Employment Agreements are issued in compliance with MLC, Flag State and National requirements
• Arranging suitable travel arrangements allowing sufficient time for handing over of duties and familiarization
• Ensuring that expenses not covered in the manning agreement are debited to owners
• Monitoring of crew performance including progress of any cadets and arranging follow-up where required
• Planning of Officers and ratings rotation
• Promotion and monitoring of Seafarers Career progression
• Actively recruiting for open positions as required
• Being fully conversant with the Company’s Management System
• Implementing effectively the Company’s Management System
• Contributing to the development of new or the amendment of existing procedures
• Promoting and supporting efforts for continual improvement
• Monitoring training needs and initiating follow-up of identified training needs as appropriate
• Liaising with all parties concerned in case of sickness and/or accidents
• Ensuring that non-conformities, observations and customer complaints are investigated and timely followed up
