Job summary

Capgemini in Chennai, India, seeks an Analyst Logistics Cost Planning, Fleet Operations & Financial Control to manage end-to-end logistics cost planning, budget governance, and fleet cost execution across inbound and outbound flows.

You will partner with SCM, Logistics Operations, Finance, Fleet Operations, and external carriers to translate activity into cost insights, support performance improvements, and ensure compliance across plants, ports, yards, and dealer networks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, SCM, Finance, or Business.
  • 2–3 years in automotive logistics or SCM finance.
  • Experience with budgets, forecasts, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Knowledge of logistics cost structures, fuel indices, and contracts.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, SCM.

Analyst Logistics Cost Planning, Fleet Operations & Financial Control

Role Summary

This role is responsible for end-to-end logistics and fleet cost planning, execution tracking, financial governance, and continuous improvement across inbound and outbound automotive flows. The position supports budget setup, cost governance, fleet capacity planning, operational execution, and performance optimization to ensure cost efficiency, service reliability, and compliance across plants, ports, and dealer networks.

The role partners closely with Supply Chain Management (SCM), Logistics Operations, Finance, Fleet Operations, and external carriers to translate operational activity into accurate cost, performance insights, and actionable improvements.

Job Functions

Includes but is not limited to the following:

Budget Setup & Financial Assumptions
  • Establish and maintain logistics budget assumptions including volume, rates, fuel indices, accessorials, and operating models
  • Align logistics and fleet budgets with Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and SCM operating strategies
  • Maintain and periodically update the master logistics budget and forecast files
  • Own and maintain LCPP libraries and consolidate roll-ups to LCPU for enterprise visibility
Expense Data Collection & Cost Calculation
  • Collect and validate weekly logistics and operational expense inputs from inbound and outbound teams
  • Consolidate shipment, movement, lane, and utilization data across plants, ports, and dealers
  • Apply contracted rates, fuel surcharges, tolls, and accessorial logic accurately
  • Calculate incurred logistics costs by category, lane, carrier, and flow
  • Maintain toll tables and rate logic used in cost modeling
Approval & Cost Control Governance
  • Prepare cost summaries with appropriate backup and cost logic transparency
  • Route expenses through Delegation of Authority (DOA) workflows
  • Validate approvals through enterprise systems and ensure audit compliance
  • Identify, resolve, and elevate gaps or exceptions in approval flows
Budget Tracking & Variance Analysis
  • Compare actual incurred logistics and fleet costs against approved budget and forecasts
  • Track variances by time period, cost category, carrier, lane, and operational driver
  • Identify root causes (volume, rate, fuel, mix, execution, asset utilization)
  • Prepare GLCR and management cost reporting for SCM and Finance leadership

Financial Reconciliation & Payments
  • Review, validate, and reconcile carrier and service provider invoices
  • Ensure alignment between incurred, approved, and paid costs
  • Resolve discrepancies with carriers and internal stakeholders
  • Support payment confirmation, accrual accuracy, and period close activities
Fleet Capacity & Asset Planning
  • Plan fleet capacity across inbound and outbound flows based on production and sales volumes
  • Allocate trucks, trailers, and drivers to plants, ports, yards, and dealer routes
  • Balance internal fleet utilization versus external carrier usage
  • Adjust capacity plans for seasonality, demand shifts, and operational constraints
  • Manage permits, plates, and insurance governance, including escalation management
  • Ensure regulatory and compliance adherence for fleet operations
Route Planning & Dispatch Coordination
  • Plan daily and weekly routes by lane, geography, and delivery priority
  • Assign drivers and equipment to scheduled runs
  • Coordinate with plants, ports, and outbound logistics teams for execution alignment
  • Manage dispatch changes driven by volume changes, disruptions, or constraints
Execute Fleet Operations
  • Monitor in-transit execution, service performance, and delivery adherence
  • Coordinate recovery actions for delays, breakdowns, or service failures
  • Support restoration-to-service decisions for fleet assets
Performance, Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Track fleet utilization, cost per trip, empty miles, and asset productivity
  • Monitor damage rates, safety performance, and service KPIs
  • Review trends across inbound and outbound logistics operations
  • Identify cost reduction, avoidance, and optimization opportunities
  • Support sourcing initiatives, rate negotiations, and network optimization
  • Feed operational learnings into future planning cycles and budget assumptions
Minimum Qualifications
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Finance, or Business from an accredited university

Experience
  • 2–3 years of experience in automotive logistics, fleet operations, SCM finance, or transportation cost management
  • Strong exposure to inbound/outbound logistics, carrier management, and fleet operations
  • Experience working with budgets, forecasts, accruals, and variance analysis
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong understanding of automotive logistics flows (plant, port, yard, dealer)
  • Advanced analytical and Excel/financial modeling skills
  • Experience with logistics cost structures, fuel indices, tolls, and contracts
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, SCM, and external partners
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present insights to leadership
  • High attention to detail, audit readiness, and governance discipline
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in OEM or Tier‑1 automotive logistics environment
  • Familiarity with TMS, fleet management systems, or ERP cost modules
  • Exposure to continuous improvement, Lean, or cost optimization initiative
