Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage transportation from plants to distributors, dealers and project sites.

Job Title: Assistant Manager Logistics

Department: Logistics

Reports To: Logistics Manager

Role Summary:

The Assistant Manager – Logistics will be responsible for managing primary and secondary transportation operations, transport contract finalization, freight bill verification, Transport Management System (TMS) implementation & execution, and transit insurance claim management. The role focuses on ensuring cost-effective logistics operations, timely deliveries, strong transporter performance, and efficient coordination between plants, warehouses, and sales teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary Logistics Management

• Manage transportation from manufacturing plants to distributors, dealers, and project sites.
• Ensure timely vehicle placement, dispatch of finished goods and optimize vehicle utilization and freight costs.
• Coordinate with planning and warehouse teams for smooth plant dispatch operations.

Secondary Logistics Management

• Manage deliveries from depots/warehouses to retailers and dealers.
• Ensure on-time delivery to customers as per committed schedules.
• Coordinate with sales and customer service teams to prioritize dispatches and resolve delivery issues.

Transporter Vendor Management & Contract Finalization

• Identify, onboard, and manage transport vendors across regions.
• Lead freight rate negotiations and finalize transport contracts with defined service levels (SLAs).
• Monitor transporter performance based on delivery timelines, service quality, and cost efficiency.

Freight Bill Verification & Cost Control

• Verify freight bills against approved rate contracts and dispatch records.
• Resolve discrepancies and ensure timely processing for payment.
• Maintain freight cost data and support cost optimization initiatives.

Transport Management System (TMS) Implementation & Execution

• Support implementation, configuration, and execution of Transport Management Systems.
• Ensure accurate shipment planning, vehicle allocation, freight calculation, and tracking through TMS.
• Drive system adoption, maintain data accuracy, and generate logistics performance reports.

Transit Insurance & Claims Management

• Manage transit insurance coverage for shipments and handle claims for damages or shortages.
• Coordinate with transporters, warehouses, and insurance companies for documentation and claim settlement.
• Ensure timely claim submission and closure.

Cross Functional Coordination & Reporting

• Collaborate with production, procurement, sales, finance, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth logistics operations.
• Prepare logistics reports related to freight costs, delivery performance, and transporter efficiency.
• Use SAP, TMS, and MS Excel tools for data analysis and operational reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Engineering.
• 9–15 years of experience in logistics operations within manufacturing or building materials industry.
