Job Description

Consultant - Nephrology is responsible for diagnosing and managing diseases affecting the kidneys and related metabolic and fluid balance conditions. The includes clinical assessment, investigation review, treatment planning, management of acute and chronic kidney disorders, dialysis-related care, emergency management, patient counselling, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive renal care.

• Evaluate patients with kidney and renal-related disorders.
• Obtain detailed medical histories and perform clinical assessments.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic kidney diseases.
• Review renal function tests, laboratory reports, imaging, and other investigations.
• Develop individualized treatment and renal management plans.
• Manage electrolyte, fluid balance, and acid-base abnormalities.
• Assess and manage patients requiring dialysis and renal replacement therapy.
• Coordinate dialysis-related clinical care with the dialysis team.
• Manage renal emergencies and acute kidney injury as appropriate.
• Monitor patients with chronic kidney disease and associated complications.
• Adjust treatment plans based on clinical response and investigation results.
• Coordinate with urology, cardiology, critical care, surgery, and other specialties when required.
• Provide inpatient, outpatient, and referral consultations.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
• Counsel patients regarding renal disease, treatment, diet, and follow-up within scope.
• Support pre-procedure and post-procedure renal care where applicable.
• Participate in clinical rounds, audits, and multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and clinical protocols.
• Guide junior doctors and clinical staff as appropriate.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards.
