Purpose of the Position:
(Primary objective and intended contribution of the role towards achieving business and organizational goals)
Own CNC turning and turn-mill operations for small, high-precision metal child parts for a global smartphone customer buttons, rings, pins, shafts, inserts and similar turned parts in aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and brass. The role holder is accountable for holding micron-level tolerances and a cosmetic-ready surface at high volume, from machine selection and program development through to stable mass production at target cycle time, yield and cost.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1) Machine selection & setup: Specify Swiss-type (sliding headstock) and turn-mill machines, bar feeders, coolant/oil and chip management systems. Support supplier evaluation, FAT/SAT, installation and machine layout with Projects.
- 2) Process & program development: Write and prove out CNC programs and CAM programs; design collets, guide bushes and fixtures; build process sheets and set-up sheets; optimise cycle time per part.
- 3) Tooling strategy: Select carbide, PCD and diamond tooling for cosmetic and precision features; set up tool life management, tool presetting and cost-per-part tracking for tooling.
- 4) Precision & surface ownership: Hold tolerances in the required range and ensure the product meets surface finish (Ra) targets; control thermal drift and use in-process gauging. Eliminate burrs, chatter and tool marks that would show up after anodising or PVD/DLC.
- 5) NPI & qualification: Give DFM feedback on customer drawings (GD&T); run capability studies; support First Article Inspection with CMM and vision measurement.
- 6) Productivity & OEE: Drive spindle uptime, OEE and set-up reduction (SMED); enable multi-machine operation per operator and unmanned/lights-out running where feasible; reduce scrap and cost per part.
- 7) Machine health: Define preventive maintenance with the Maintenance team spindle runout, alignment and backlash checks, critical spares; reduce breakdown time.
- 8) Team & safety: Hire, train and lead programmers, setters and operators across shifts; maintain a skill matrix. Ensure machine guarding, oil-mist control and safe bar-handling practices.
Technical Skills Required for the Position:
