VALVEWORKS INDIA is seeking an experienced production leader for CNC machining and manufacturing engineering. The role requires hands-on shop-floor leadership, directing programmers, operators, and maintenance to sustain high productivity and quality in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
You will drive process improvements across setup, fixture design, CAM programming, and tooling selection, ensuring first-pass success and adherence to GD&T standards.
Lead production activity across CNC operations, delivering planned output on time, at the required quality and at
the lowest possible cost. You will work directly with programmers, operators, production supervisors, quality,
maintenance and tooling suppliers to keep machines productive and jobs running right the first time.
1. Machine utilization: With production and maintenance, find and remove lost machine hours from setup,
production planning, and waiting and idle time. Drive improvement in productive spindle utilization and OEE,
recognizing the challenges of a high-mix, low-volume environment.
2. Setup-time reduction: Reduce machine setup, fixture and jaw changes, job prove-out, tool-setting,
component alignment and indicating time, and first-piece approval delays. Apply SMED, standardized
workholding, zero-point and clamping systems, probing and offline tool presetting where technically and
commercially justified.
3. Scrap, rework and first-pass yield: Work with Quality and Production to improve first-time-right production.
Analyze recurring dimensional deviations, process instability, tool failure and setup-related variation using 5
Why, Pareto analysis, fishbone and capability studies. Reduce the total cost of scrap and rework: material
consumed, machining hours, tooling, re-machining and additional inspection.
4. Fixture and workholding: Review existing fixtures, soft jaws and workholding concepts. Develop more rigid,
repeatable and operator-friendly solutions, reduce indicating and alignment, improve access for multi-axis
machining and use modular, standardized fixtures. Make sure workholding does not introduce distortion or
compromise critical GD&T.
5. CAM and CNC programming: Establish and improve CAM and CNC programming standards. Review feeds,
speeds, depths of cut, stepovers and cutting conditions. Promote reusable programming strategies and proven
methods for common component families, and make sure lessons from successful jobs are kept and reused.
Exposure to Mastercam, Siemens NX CAM, hyperMILL, PowerMill or equivalent is desirable.
6. Automation and technology: Identify technically and commercially viable opportunities in CNC probing, tool
robotic loading (where justified), CAD/CAM standardization and manufacturing-data collection.
Education: BE / BTech / Diploma in Mechanical, Production or Manufacturing Engineering. Practical CNC
capability matters more than the qualification alone.
Experience: 12–18 years in CNC machining and production, including several years leading production and
productivity improvement. Strong in CNC turning and/or machining centers, 3-, 4- and preferably 5-axis
machining, CAM, complex workholding, cutting tools and parameters, forgings and alloy steels, GD&T and tighttolerance
parts. Oil & gas, valves, pressure-control or energy experience is particularly relevant.
Technically strong: can review the drawing, program, fixture and tooling at the machine and challenge the
process.
Hands-on: spends substantial time on the shop floor, not mainly on presentations.
Commercially minded: knows the lowest cycle time is not always the lowest cost.
Challenges methods: asks "Why are we machining it this way?" and proves a better one through controlled
trials.
Cross-functional leader: aligns programmers, supervisors, operators, quality, maintenance and suppliers
without direct authority.
