Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled CNC Turning Programmer & Operator who can independently manage the complete CNC turning processfrom reading drawings and preparing/editing programs to machine setup, actual machine operation, inspection and production output. This is one combined, hands‑on role; the selected candidate must personally perform both programming and operating duties, not only supervise or support another operator. The role involves CNC lathes with Fanuc and/or Siemens controllers.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, GD&T, process sheets and machining requirements.
- Independently create, edit, prove out and troubleshoot CNC turning programs using G-code and M-code on Fanuc and/or Siemens controllers; use CAM software where applicable.
- Plan machining sequences and select suitable cutting tools, inserts, holders, fixtures, feeds, speeds and depth of cut.
- Personally set up and operate CNC turning machines, including work holding, chuck/collet/soft jaw setup, tool setting and work/tool offsets.
- Carry out first‑piece trials, verify program and toolpath safety, correct offsets and obtain first‑piece approval before batch production.
- Run production jobs, load/unload components, monitor operations and achieve specified cycle time, output and quality targets.
- Perform turning, facing, drilling, boring, threading, grooving, taper turning and parting operations as required.
- Inspect first‑off and in‑process parts using Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, thread gauges and other instruments.
- Identify and resolve dimensional variation, machining defects, machine alarms, tool wear and program‑related issues; elevate major breakdowns.
- Optimize cycle times and tool life without compromising safety, tolerance or surface finish.
- Maintain correct versions and backups of CNC programs, setup details, tool lists, production records and inspection records.
- Follow machine safety procedures, PPE requirements, 5S practices and basic preventive maintenance checks.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- ITI (Turner/Machinist) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering; equivalent proven shop‑floor experience may be considered.
- Preferably 3-5 years of hands‑on CNC turning experience covering BOTH independent programming and machine operation.
- Practical working experience with Fanuc and/or Siemens CNC turning controls is essential.
- Ability to take a component from drawing to accepted finished part independently is mandatory.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in CNC turning G-code/M-code, tool geometry/wear offsets, work offsets, program modification and safe program trials.
- Knowledge of work holding, threading cycles, cutting parameters, insert selection and machining of MS, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron and aluminium.
- Comfortable with precision measurement, drawing interpretation, tolerance control and basic GD&T.
- CAM programming experience is an advantage but is not a substitute for hands‑on machine operation.
Working Conditions
- Full‑time, factory‑based position. Must be willing to work in production shifts and support job changeovers or overtime as required by production schedules.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Program accuracy and successful first‑off approval
- Daily production achievement
- Dimensional accuracy and rejection rate
- Cycle time and machine utilization
- Tool life and machining cost
- On‑time job completion
- Safety, documentation and 5S compliance
Important Hiring Requirement
The applicant must be willing and able to both WRITE/MODIFY CNC TURNING PROGRAMS and OPERATE THE CNC TURNING MACHINE independently. Candidates experienced only in programming or only in machine operation will not meet this position’s core requirement.
