Job summary

Stam Digital Tooling is seeking a CNC Operator to safely operate turning and milling machines in Chennai. You will set up tools, offsets, and work offsets, read engineering drawings, and ensure dimensional accuracy through in-process inspection.

Responsibilities include maintaining production output, following CNC programs, conducting basic tool changes, and reporting defects. Prior experience in tooling/manufacturing and shift willingness are preferred.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T specs.
• Set up machines, tools, offsets, and work offsets for production.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy and inspect parts using precision instruments.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC turning/milling machines safely and efficiently.
• Load/unload parts; ensure proper clamping and positioning.
• Follow CNC programs and perform basic offset corrections when required.
• Maintain housekeeping and follow 5S and safety procedures.
• Coordinate with supervisors and quality inspectors to meet targets.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Operate CNC turning/milling machines safely and efficiently as per production requirements.
• Set up machines, workpieces, cutting tools, tool offsets, and work offsets.
• Read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and work instructions.
• Load and unload components and ensure proper job positioning and clamping.
• Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
• Perform in-process inspection using Vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments.
• Identify and report machining defects, tool wear, machine abnormalities, and quality issues.
• Maintain required production output while ensuring product quality.
• Follow CNC programs and make basic program/offset corrections when required.
• Replace and maintain cutting tools as per machining requirements.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and follow 5S, safety, and company procedures.
• Complete production records, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
• Coordinate with supervisors, quality inspectors, and other team members to achieve production targets.
• Perform routine machine cleaning and basic maintenance as required.

Preferred candidate profile

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Tool & Die, or related technical field.
• 0-6 years of experience as a CNC Operator in a tooling or manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on experience operating CNC milling/turning machines.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and GD&T basics.
• Knowledge of tool setting, tool offsets, work offsets, and job setting.
• Familiarity with measuring instruments such as Vernier caliper, micrometer, and gauges.
• Basic knowledge of CNC programs, G-code, and M-code is preferred.
• Good understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, and tool selection.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to meet production targets while following safety procedures.
• Willingness to work in shifts when required.
• Good teamwork, discipline, and problem‑solving skills.
