Overview
The Azure L3 Engineer will be responsible for managing optimizing and supporting missioncritical Azure cloud environments. This role involves handling complex technical escalations, leading P1/P2 incident calls, engaging directly with clients and mentoring L1/L2 engineers. The engineer will ensure stability, scalability and security across Azure services while driving automation, cost optimization and adherence to operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and troubleshoot high-priority P1/P2 incidents ensuring quick resolution and clear communication to clients and stakeholders
- Support and administer key Azure services such as App Services, Kubernetes, Logic Apps, Key Vault, and Azure Monitoring tools
- Perform advanced troubleshooting for issues escalated by L1 and L2 teams across compute, network, storage and identity services
- Implement infrastructure automation through Azure ARM templates, Bicep, PowerShell or Terraform
- Monitor resource utilization, health and performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and Application Insights
- Ensure compliance with cloud governance, security policies and cost management best practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement high-availability, fault-tolerant environments
- Create and maintain detailed documentation including SOPs, architecture diagrams and technical runbooks
- Mentor and coach L1/L2 engineers through technical sessions, reviews and escalation handling
- Participate in capacity planning, patch management and disaster recovery exercises
- Participate in shift rotations, ensuring coverage for 24x7 operations across environments
Required Skills and Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience with Azure cloud infrastructure and services: VMs, VNet, NSG, Load Balancer, Bastion, App Gateway and PaaS services like WebApp, Function, Logic, EventHub, Cognitive Services, etc
- Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory, Identity Management, RBAC and security best practices
- Proficiency in automation and scripting tools including PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates or Terraform
- Experience in managing Azure Monitoring tools and proactive issue resolution
- Good understanding of Azure networking, hybrid connectivity, VPN, ExpressRoute and firewall configurations
- Experience with Azure App Services, SQL databases, Containers, AKS and serverless offerings: Logic Apps, Functions
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures
- Proven experience managing incident bridges and communicating technical details effectively to clients
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD integrations and monitoring using Azure DevOps or Jenkins
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and experience working in enterprise-scale cloud-based environments
- Strong documentation skills to create and maintain detailed technical reports, RCA documents and SOPs
- Effective communication and client-facing abilities to manage incident calls, status reports and escalations
- Skilled in leading and driving P1/P2 calls under pressure while coordinating between multiple teams
- Leadership and mentoring skills to guide and train L1 and L2 engineers
- Analytical and problemsolving mindset focused on continuous improvement and accountability
Certifications and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
- ITIL Foundation certification is an added advantage
