Job summary

GMR Group is seeking an experienced EHS professional to drive implementation of safety and environmental systems at the Angul site in Odisha. You will lead hazard analyses, risk assessments, and incident investigations, while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and certifications.

The role requires conducting extensive EHS training, contractor safety management, and promoting a proactive safety culture across employees and contractors, including Odia-language communication and field

Qualifications

• Regular Diploma/BE in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering.
• Post Diploma in Industrial Safety from SCTEVT Odisha.
• ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification or comparable course.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Odia.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and licenses (Factories Act, CEA, PESO).
• Lead hazard identification, HIRA, JSA, and risk assessments.
• Drive incident prevention via audits, inspections, and safety interventions.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; implement corrective actions.
• Develop and execute contractor safety management programs.
• Conduct EHS training, inductions, and awareness campaigns for employees and contractors.
• Monitor PTW, LOTO, confined space entry, work at height, lifting operations.

Job Purpose

Drive the Implementation of EHS systems

Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Factories Act, CEA regulations, PESO licenses, and other applicable legal requirements.


• Lead hazard identification, HIRA, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and risk assessment activities.


• Drive incident prevention through proactive safety inspections, audits, and behavioral safety interventions.


• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; identify root causes and track corrective actions.


• Develop and execute contractor safety management programs.


• Conduct EHS training, induction, refresher programs, and awareness campaigns for employees and contractors.


• Monitor permit‑to‑work (PTW), LOTO, confined space entry, work at height, lifting operations, and other critical activities.


• Organize emergency preparedness activities, including mock drills and emergency response training.


• Promote safety culture through leadership engagement, observation rounds, toolbox talks, and safety campaigns.


• Ensure occupational health surveillance, industrial hygiene monitoring, and employee wellness initiatives.


• Maintain EHS records, reports, dashboards, and management review presentations.


• Coordinate internal and external EHS audits and facilitate certification requirements (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, NSC, etc.).


• Drive EHS improvement projects, digitization initiatives, and best‑practice implementation.


• Provide leadership and guidance to Agency Safety officers and supervisors, ensuring competency development and team effectiveness.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Zero statutory non‑compliances; timely submission of statutory returns and reports.


• 100% coverage of critical activities through risk assessments; closure of identified risks within agreed timelines.


• Follow Zero Harm; >95% closure of audit observations within target dates.


• 100% incident investigations completed within stipulated timelines; CAPA closure rate >95%.


• Contractor safety compliance >95%.


• Training compliance >98%; positive improvement in safety competency assessments.


• 100% PTW compliance during audits.


• Minimum planned mock drills completed annually


• Increase in safety observations and employee participation; improvement in safety culture survey scores.


• 100% health check‑up compliance as per statutory requirements.


• Timely submission of monthly EHS MIS & Reports with 100% accuracy.

Education Qualifications

• Regular Diploma/B tech/B.E. in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering.


• Post Diploma in Industrial Safety from SCTE&VT Odisha


• Certified ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor or successfully completed an ISO 45001:2018 certification course.


• Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing Odia.

Relevant Experience

• Minimum 05 years and maximum 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years of EHS experience in thermal power plants or other large-scale industrial facilities. Good Knowledge in Computer and SAP operation.
