Job summary

Gallagher in India is seeking an experienced PHP developer to design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade software systems. You will work on middleware, legacy, and modern Laravel-based applications, collaborating with architects, product managers, and end users to translate requirements into robust solutions.

We expect 8+ years of PHP development, strong Laravel and RESTful API skills, and a solid grasp of SOLID principles, design patterns, and microservices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional PHP development experience; proven experience maintaining and enhancing large enterprise codebases.
• Strong proficiency in PHP 8+ and Laravel framework, RESTful API development; understanding of SOLID principles and design patterns.
• Experience modernizing legacy code and integrating with third-party systems and vendor APIs.

Responsibilities

• Managing products, systems and/or projects/processes, and working independently with limited supervision.
• Coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.

Responsibilities

Specializes in planning, designing, and developing software systems (e.g., middleware, legacy, mainframe) and applications from concept phase to series production used in local, networked, cloudbased or internet related computer programs. Developers design, code, test, debug, and document program requirements, working with architects, product managers, and endusers in the development and enhancement of applications. Plans, designs, and develops software systems from concept phase to production in local networks or cloud based related computer programs. Codes in relevant languages. CAREER: Applies advanced knowledge of sub-function typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities may include:

• Coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.

• Experience 8+ years of professional PHP development experience; proven experience maintaining and enhancing large enterprise codebases; demonstrated legacy modernization from older PHP frameworks to modern Laravel; experience integrating with third-party systems and vendor APIs.
• Technical Competencies Strong proficiency in PHP 8+, Laravel framework, RESTful API development; solid understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, dependency injection, service container, and clean architecture concepts; experience with microservices patterns preferred.
• Development
• Competencies Full-stack development across Blade templates, Vue.js or React; MySQL (queries, stored procedures, performance tuning); Eloquent ORM and query builder for data access; PHPUnit testing and code review practices; ability to translate business requirements into working software with minimal rework.
• Tools Azure DevOps (pipelines, repos, boards), Git, PhpStorm / VS Code, MySQL Workbench, Composer, Azure Portal (awareness-level), and similar development or collaboration platforms.
• Leadership Traits Self-starter requiring minimal supervision; ownership mindset; ability to drive ambiguity to resolution; clear communicator who articulates technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders; pragmatic decision-maker balancing quality with delivery.
• AI Enablement Practical experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development, refactoring, and documentation; ability to validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability; awareness of AI limitations and responsible usage practices.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Insurance, brokerage, or financial services domain experience with distributed architecture.
• E-commerce platform experience.
• Content management experience with WordPress
