Job summary

IMI in India is seeking an experienced Design and Manufacturing Engineer to lead assembly line design and automation improvements across high-volume production. You will drive layout optimization and automation projects from concept to implementation.

You will develop PFDs and P&IDs, conduct time studies, and ensure compliance with EHS and automotive quality standards. Collaboration with R&D and cross-functional teams will be essential to achieve DFA and MES integration goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing engineering.
• 7–10 years in process design or manufacturing engineering.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
• Hands-on PLC programming and pneumatic system design.
• Experience with SPC, RCA, Minitab/Excel for data analysis.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Design and optimize assembly line layouts, including pneumatic automation systems such as actuators, valves, and control logic for semi-automated manufacturing processes.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications to integrate automation systems with production workflows.
• Conduct risk assessments, safety evaluations, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities related to fluid dynamics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and manufacturing equipment.
• Perform time studies, workflow analyses, and capacity planning to drive cycle time reduction, productivity improvement, and throughput optimization.
• Ensure compliance with Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) standards by conducting risk assessments, implementing safe work practices, and supporting sustainability initiatives aligned with ESG frameworks.
• Maintain compliance with automotive and manufacturing quality standards, including IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
• Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams to evaluate manufacturability and implement Design for Assembly (DFA) improvements during new product development.
• Support assembly line scale-up activities, MES integration, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7-10 years of experience in process design, manufacturing engineering, or industrial engineering within a production environment.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.
• Strong expertise in machine design, including proficiency in 3D CAD/CAM tools, material selection, and standard component selection.
• Hands-on experience in PLC programming, pneumatic system design, and industrial automation technologies.
• Practical knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and data analysis tools such as Minitab and Excel.
• Experience with assembly line design, process scale-up, MES integration, and manufacturing best practices.
• Working knowledge of molding, coil winding, and assembly manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with automotive quality standards, manufacturing safety requirements, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience

• Automotive, industrial manufacturing, electromechanical, or precision engineering environments.
• High-volume assembly and automated production lines.
