The Assistant Manager - Quality role ensures that structural steel elements, welded assemblies, and fabricated components meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, and applicable international codes. The position independently manages stage-wise shop floor inspections, non-destructive testing, dimensional verification, quality documentation, and corrective actions.
Welding Inspection & Non-Destructive Testing
Conduct visual inspections of welded components before, during, and after welding to identify defects such as porosity, undercut, and slag inclusion
Perform or witness non-destructive testing, including dye penetrant testing and magnetic particle testing, and coordinate third-party radiographic or ultrasonic testing
Verify welding parameters against approved Welding Procedure Specifications and ensure that welders hold the required qualifications
Dimensional & Fit-Up Inspection
Read and interpret complex heavy-fabrication blueprints, structural drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing symbols
Inspect fit-up alignment and final dimensions using precision measuring instruments, including Vernier callipers, micrometers, height gauges, and coating thickness gauges
Documentation & Customer Audits
Maintain comprehensive quality assurance and quality control documentation, including Material Test Certificates, Dimensional Inspection Reports, and Final Release Certificates
Prepare the required documentation and present fabricated structures for customer or third-party inspection
Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement
Identify rework and rejection trends on the shop floor and lead root cause analysis using methods such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams
Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce welding rework and improve first-time-right yield
Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline
3–4 years of quality assurance and quality control experience within heavy fabrication, pre-engineered buildings, structural steel, or heavy equipment manufacturing
