Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech in Mechanical or equivalent, with 8–12 years in machine shop operations.
• Experience leading shift operations in high-volume manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, and quality practices.
• Proven ability to manage manpower, drive improvements, and ensure safety.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead machine shop operations on assigned shifts to meet production targets.
• Plan manpower deployment and develop operators for multi-skilled roles.
• Monitor OEE, analyze downtime, and implement corrective actions.
• Supervise machining operations including VMC, honing, and grinding.
• Provide CNC programming support (Fanuc/Siemens/Brother) and setup guidance.
• Coordinate maintenance for breakdowns and implement preventive measures.
• Ensure availability of fixtures, tooling, and gauges; drive tooling improvements.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process docs.
• Ensure quality conformance and drive corrective actions using RCA techniques.
• Uphold safety, 5S, and EHS standards; lead daily/weekly performance reviews.
• Prepare production and performance reports; support management reviews.

Job Summary

Relevant experience to lead shop floor production activities and ensure the achievement of production, quality, delivery, and safety objectives. Managing shift operations, manpower deployment, machine utilization, process improvement, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives within the machine shop.

The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in machining operations, CNC programming, production planning, OEE monitoring, and team management in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Shift Management

• Lead and oversee machine shop operations during assigned shifts to achieve production targets.
• Ensure adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and delivery commitments.
• Drive productivity improvements through effective utilization of manpower, machines, and resources.
• Monitor daily production performance and take corrective actions to eliminate bottlenecks.

Manpower Planning & Team Development

• Plan and deploy manpower effectively based on production requirements.
• Train, guide, and develop operators and new employees on processes, quality standards, and safety practices.
• Build multi-skilled teams to improve operational flexibility and efficiency.
• Monitor attendance, discipline, and overall workforce performance.

OEE & Performance Monitoring

• Monitor and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Conduct daily loss analysis and downtime reviews.
• Identify productivity losses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Machining Operations

• Supervise and optimize machining processes including:
• Vertical Machining Centers (VMC)
• Special Purpose Machines (SPM)
• Expansion Honing
• Single Pass Honing
• Grinding Operations
• Ensure process capability, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to process parameters.
• Support cycle time reduction and process optimization initiatives.

CNC Programming & Technical Support

• Provide technical guidance on CNC machine programming and setup.
• Work with machine controls including:

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Coordination

• Diagnose and resolve machine-related issues and process deviations.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams for effective breakdown management.
• Implement preventive measures to minimize machine downtime and improve equipment reliability.

Jigs, Fixtures & Tooling Management

• Ensure availability and proper utilisation of jigs, fixtures, tools, and gauges.
• Support development and improvement of machining fixtures and tooling.
• Monitor tool life and recommend improvements to enhance productivity.

Technical Documentation

• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and process requirements.
• Develop and maintain:

• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Work Instructions
• Process Flow Diagrams
• Production and Process Documentation

• Ensure process documentation is regularly updated and effectively communicated.

Quality Management

• Ensure compliance with customer and internal quality requirements.
• Analyse defects, rejections, and process deviations.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions using quality tools such as 5 Why Analysis and Fishbone Diagram.
• Drive initiatives for defect reduction and process improvement.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with EHS standards.
• Conduct regular safety observations and risk assessments.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, statutory requirements, and 5S practices.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
• Analyse production, quality, downtime, and manpower data using Excel.
• Prepare management presentations and operational reviews using PowerPoint.
• Track KPIs and recommend action plans for performance improvement.

Specification

• B.E. / B Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8-12 years of experience in machine shop operations within the automotive or engineering manufacturing industry.
