Assistant General Manager – Project DeliveryJob Summary
The Assistant General Manager – Project Delivery will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering projects successfully from initiation through completion. The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder-management, commercial awareness, and project-governance capabilities to ensure that projects are delivered within approved timelines, budgets, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
The position will work closely with internal teams, clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to drive execution excellence, resolve project challenges, manage risks, and maintain effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of project-delivery strategies while supporting the organization’s broader business and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Delivery
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of assigned projects, including project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout.
- Translate project objectives and business requirements into structured execution plans, milestones, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Establish clear project governance, roles, responsibilities, reporting mechanisms, and performance expectations.
- Monitor project progress against approved schedules, budgets, scope, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
- Ensure timely completion of project activities and coordinate corrective actions wherever deviations occur.
- Review project plans and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, cost control, and delivery performance.
Team Leadership and Coordination
- Lead and guide project managers, engineers, coordinators, consultants, contractors, and cross-functional teams involved in project execution.
- Allocate resources effectively based on project priorities, workload, timelines, and capability requirements.
- Promote collaboration between design, procurement, finance, commercial, operations, quality, safety, and other functional teams.
- Conduct regular project reviews and provide direction on operational, technical, commercial, and organizational matters.
- Support team development through coaching, performance feedback, knowledge sharing, and capability-building initiatives.
Stakeholder and Client Management
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, senior management, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other external stakeholders.
- Build and maintain professional relationships to support effective project communication and long-term business objectives.
- Lead project meetings, progress reviews, presentations, and steering-committee discussions as required.
- Communicate project status, risks, decisions, changes, and performance indicators clearly and promptly.
- Address stakeholder concerns and facilitate timely resolution of escalated issues.
Cost, Commercial, and Contract Management
- Monitor project budgets, expenditure, cash flow, cost forecasts, variations, and financial performance.
- Coordinate with commercial, procurement, and finance teams to ensure effective cost control and financial governance.
- Review contractual requirements, deliverables, milestones, claims, approvals, and change-control processes.
- Support negotiations with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and clients where required.
- Identify potential commercial risks and ensure that contractual and financial matters are addressed in a timely manner.
Risk, Quality, Compliance, and Safety
- Identify, assess, document, and manage project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop mitigation plans and ensure that key risks, issues, dependencies, and opportunities are actively tracked.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, contractual requirements, and industry standards.
- Promote a strong culture of quality, safety, integrity, and operational discipline across project teams.
- Coordinate quality inspections, audits, reviews, testing, commissioning, handover, and defect resolution activities as applicable.
- Ensure that project documentation, records, approvals, and reports are maintained accurately and systematically.
Reporting and Governance
- Prepare and present periodic project reports covering progress, schedule, cost, quality, risks, resources, issues, and forecasts.
- Maintain project dashboards and performance metrics to support informed management decisions.
- Escalate critical matters with appropriate analysis, recommendations, and recovery plans.
- Ensure that project controls, review processes, approval workflows, and documentation standards are consistently followed.
- Conduct post-project reviews and capture lessons learned to improve future delivery performance.
Project Closeout and Handover
- Coordinate completion, final inspections, documentation, testing, commissioning, handover, and closeout activities.
- Ensure that outstanding works, defects, claims, contractual obligations, and operational-readiness requirements are resolved.
- Support the preparation of completion reports, as-built documentation, operating manuals, warranties, and handover records.
- Confirm that project outcomes meet approved objectives and stakeholder expectations.
Key Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in project management, business administration, or a related field will be an advantage.
Experience
- Significant experience in project delivery, project management, program coordination, or operations leadership.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex projects from planning through completion.
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, risk management, stakeholder coordination, and reporting.
- Experience working with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and senior leadership.
- Exposure to contract administration, procurement, commercial management, quality assurance, compliance, and project closeout activities.
- Experience in a supervisory or managerial role with responsibility for project performance and team outcomes.
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong understanding of project-management principles, methodologies, governance frameworks, and delivery controls.
- Proficiency in project-planning, scheduling, reporting, document-management, and collaboration tools.
