Job Description
Must have: About the Role We are looking for an AS/400 (IBM iSeries) Software Engineer to design, develop, debug, and support applications on the IBM i platform. You will work across the full development lifecycle analysis, design, coding, testing, and production deployment — while providing ongoing application support to meet client SLAs. Prior exposure to manual/functional testing is a strong plus, as the role involves close collaboration with QA and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance applications on the AS/400 (IBM i) platform using RPGLE, RPG/400, CLLE, and CL/400.
- Design and modify programs, display files, and report files to accommodate changing business and database requirements.
- Query and analyze data in DB2 using SQL to investigate issues and extract insights.
- Perform in-depth root cause analysis on defects and service requests logged by clients, and deliver timely fixes.
- Provide batch support across development, testing, and production environments.
- Carry out unit testing, integration testing, and support production deployments.
- Prepare technical specification documents, workflow designs, and production support handover documentation.
- Perform regular system maintenance and health checks, and automate housekeeping tasks where possible.
- Follow established change management and incident management processes.
- Work to meet and maintain client Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3–5 years of overall IT experience, with hands-on AS/400 development and support experience.
- Strong programming skills in RPGLE, RPG/400, CLLE, and CL/400 (ILE concepts).
- Proficiency in DB2 and writing SQL for data analysis.
- Experience with AS/400 development tools: SEU, SDA, RLU, and PDM.
- Solid understanding of debugging techniques, unit testing, and test-case design.
- Familiarity with ITSM/ticketing tools such as Jira.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electronics & Communication, Computer Science, IT, or a related field).
- Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience in manual, functional, regression, and smoke testing.
- Exposure to change management, incident management, and production support in an SLA-driven environment.
- Domain experience in banking/financial services (e.g., cheque/transaction processing, accounts payable/receivable, inventory management) or insurance (policy administration).
- Experience with payment application testing/certification (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, etc.) is a plus.
- Ability to create user manuals and technical documentation for end users.
