Role Purpose
The Area Sales Manager will be responsible for driving sales and business growth across the South India region, with Hyderabad as the base location. The role will focus on developing new customers, managing existing accounts, achieving sales and gross profit targets, expanding market share, and building strong customer relationships within the industrial and manufacturing sectors.
The position will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing the sales pipeline, managing RFQs and commercial negotiations, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure customer requirements are fulfilled effectively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales & Business Development
- Develop and execute sales plans for the assigned South India region for C-parts, fasteners and related supply-chain solutions.
- Achieve annual, quarterly and monthly sales and gross profit targets.
- Identify and develop new customers and business opportunities across South India.
- Develop business with OEMs, Tier-1/Tier-2 suppliers, industrial customers and MNCs.
- Increase business with existing customers through upselling and cross-selling.
- Develop and maintain a healthy sales pipeline and ensure regular follow-up on opportunities.
2. Market Development
- Develop a structured customer and territory plan for South India.
- Identify high-potential industries, customers and geographical markets.
- Conduct regular customer and prospect visits across the assigned territory.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, pricing and customer requirements.
- Identify opportunities to increase market penetration and expand the business
- Maintain updated records of prospects, opportunities and customer development activities.
3. Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and key decision-makers.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned customers.
- Understand customer requirements related to products, quality, pricing, delivery and service.
- Regularly follow up on customer requirements, quotations, orders and business opportunities.
- Handle customer complaints and coordinate with relevant internal teams for timely resolution.
- Conduct periodic business reviews with key customers wherever required.
4. RFQ, Quotation & Commercial Management
- Identify and pursue new RFQs and business opportunities.
- Coordinate with Sourcing, Quality, Warehouse, Logistics and Finance teams for customer requirements.
- Prepare and follow up on quotations and commercial proposals.
- Support price negotiations and commercial discussions with customers.
- Ensure appropriate consideration of pricing, margins, payment terms and delivery requirements before finalizing business.
5. Sales Forecasting & Reporting
- Prepare accurate sales forecasts for the assigned territory.
- Monitor forecast variations and take corrective actions where required.
- Track sales, gross profit, RFQs, orders, pipeline and customer development activities.
- Submit regular sales and business development reports to management.
- Monitor territory-wise performance against agreed KPIs and targets.
6. Payment & Business Control
- Ensure 100% payment recovery within the agreed credit period.
- Monitor customer outstanding and coordinate with Finance for payment follow-up.
- Identify potential commercial and credit risks and elevated to management.
- Ensure compliance with approved pricing, credit and commercial policies.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Sales, Sourcing, Quality, Warehouse, Logistics and Finance teams.
- Coordinate customer requirements related to availability, delivery, quality and commercial matters.
- Support resolution of customer complaints, quality issues and delivery concerns.
- Coordinate with Global Account Managers wherever customers are part of international/global accounts.
8. Sales Team Support
- Guide and support Sales Executives/Engineers within the assigned region, where applicable.
- Support target setting, customer planning and sales reviews.
- Share market intelligence and customer insights with the sales team.
- Encourage a result-oriented and customer-focused sales culture.
9. Market Intelligence & Business Development
- Regularly monitor competitors, market pricing, product trends and customer movements.
- Identify potential industries.
- Develop a strong network within the industrial and manufacturing sector.
- Provide management with relevant market intelligence and recommendations for future growth.
Preferred candidate profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering / Engineering / Business Management or a related field.
- Diploma holders with strong relevant experience may also be considered.
- 812 years of experience in B2B/industrial sales, business development or key account management.
- Experience in industrial fasteners, C-parts, automotive, engineering or manufacturing industries will be preferred.
- Experience in developing business with OEMs, Tier-1/Tier-2 suppliers and MNC customers.
- Strong understanding of territory sales and new customer development.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and ERP systems.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel extensively across South India.
