Job summary

Collins McNicholas Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Networking Consultant to join an established Enterprise Infrastructure team. This hands-on role focuses on design, implementation, support and optimization of secure enterprise networks across multi-vendor environments.

You will own technical activities from investigation to implementation and handover, work with customers and vendors, and mentor engineers while maintaining documentation and high service availability in a busy

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years in network engineering, managed services or telecommunications.
  • Experience with multiple networking and security vendors.
  • Experience in ISP/enterprise IT or managed services environments.
  • Proven ability to investigate and resolve complex escalations.
  • Experience delivering network implementations, upgrades or migrations.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Networking Consultant to join an established Enterprise Infrastructure team. This is a hands‑on technical role focused on the design, implementation, support and optimisation of secure and resilient enterprise network environments. The successful candidate will work across multi‑vendor networking, managed services, connectivity and security environments, taking ownership of technical activities, resolving complex network issues and supporting customers across a varied infrastructure environment. The role would suit an experienced network professional with a background in enterprise, ISP, MSP, managed services or telecommunications environments, who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working directly with customers and taking ownership of solutions from initial investigation through implementation and operational support. The position is based onsite in Boyle County Roscommon.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, implement and support enterprise network solutions.
  • Configure and deploy network switching, routing, connectivity and security technologies.
  • Support wired and wireless network infrastructure and WAN connectivity.
  • Lead and support network installations, upgrades, migrations and controlled technical changes.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex routing, switching, connectivity, VPN and network performance issues.
  • Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex customer and infrastructure issues.
  • Provide managed services support across customer network and IT infrastructure environments.
  • Monitor network infrastructure, identify potential issues and take proactive action to maintain service availability.
  • Support network security, segmentation, access control and secure connectivity.
  • Work with customers, vendors and internal technical teams to investigate and resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers and support colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, service records and operational procedures.
  • Take ownership of technical activities through to resolution, implementation and operational handover.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of network services, support processes and technical standards.
Technical Experience
  • Multi‑vendor enterprise networking environments.
  • Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet or comparable networking and security technologies.
  • ISP, MSP, managed services or telecommunications environments.
  • Enterprise LAN, WAN and internet connectivity.
  • Routing and switching technologies.
  • TCP/IP networking and associated network services.
  • DNS, DHCP, NAT and VPN technologies.
  • Network security, firewall and secure connectivity technologies.
  • Network troubleshooting, monitoring and fault diagnosis.
  • Customer network infrastructure and remote technical support.
  • Vendor‑agnostic troubleshooting across different networking hardware and operating systems.
  • Experience with additional enterprise networking, security, wireless, SD‑WAN or secure‑access technologies would be advantageous.
Experience & Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5years' experience in network engineering, managed services, telecommunications or a comparable technical role.
  • Strong practical experience supporting and troubleshooting network infrastructure.
  • Experience working with multiple networking and security vendors.
  • Experience in an ISP, MSP, managed services, enterprise IT or telecommunications environment.
  • Proven ability to investigate and resolve complex technical escalations.
  • Experience delivering network implementations, upgrades, migrations or infrastructure changes.
  • Strong customer‑facing and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Experience working within structured service delivery, incident and change‑management environments.
  • Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
  • Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring or support to other engineers would be advantageous.
  • Relevant networking or security certifications, such as Cisco, Fortinet or equivalent, would be advantageous.
  • A relevant degree or qualification in networking, telecommunications, computer systems or a related discipline would be advantageous.
