Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in Dublin is seeking a technical writer to develop SOPs and content for HVAC manufacturing, using DITA XML and a content management system.

You will produce technical illustrations and collaborate with manufacturing teams, providing DocOps support across program releases. Ideal candidates have 2+ years of technical writing experience, a background in English/technical comms, and experience with SOPs, content management systems, and scripting (APIs/SQL).

Qualifications

• 2+ years of technical writing experience.
• Educational background in English, Journalism, Technical Communications, Languages, Software & Hardware Engineering, Multimedia or Science.
• Experience with SOPs, preferably DITA XML.
• Technical illustration skills: Photoshop and Illustrator or similar.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working with development and product management teams.
• Ability to plan, organize, and support multiple program releases.
• Mentoring experience; sharing knowledge is part of the culture.
• Document control and revisioning in content management or version control systems.
• Knowledge of scripting languages, APIs, SQL is desired.

Responsibilities

• Working closely with manufacturing teams based in Dublin; onsite up to four days per week.
• Creating content for a business unit supporting program releases under guidance of more senior team members.
• Creating standard operating procedures based on HVAC manufacturing processes.
• Creating content in DITA XML and content management systems.
• Creating technical illustrations.
• Providing DocOps support and supporting one of our process teams.

Our Technical Writing org consists of 80+ writers at all experience levels. We do more than just write. As a uniquely large technical communication department, we have built our own DocOps processes: authoring tooling, publishing platform, CCMS, style guide, review/editing, illustration, patents. The majority of our content is authored in DITA XML but we also support other authoring tools such as InDesign, Framemaker and Madcap Flare.

The Technical Writing org have a track record of innovation within the company. We have won innovation competitions and had several patents granted.

What you will do

• Working closely with manufacturing teams based in Dublin. Candidates will be required to be onsite up to 4 days per week




• Creating content for a business unit supporting program releases under the guidance of more senior team members
