Job summary

Johnson Controls Ireland HVAC is seeking a technical writer to join our Dublin-based team. The role involves creating SOPs, DITA XML content, and technical illustrations for HVAC manufacturing processes, in collaboration with manufacturing, product, and development teams.

You will work onsite up to four days a week and contribute to content management workflows, tooling, and DocOps initiatives while mentoring peers and supporting multiple program releases.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of technical writing experience.
• Educational background in English, Journalism, Technical Communications, Languages, Software & Hardware Engineering, Multimedia or Science.
• Experience with writing SOPs, preferably DITA xml.
• Technical illustration skills: Photoshop and Illustrator or similar.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be working closely with the development and product management teams.
• Ability to plan, organize, and support multiple program releases.
• Mentoring experience. Sharing knowledge with other is an important part of the culture of our org.
• Document control and revisioning in content management or version control systems
• Technically skilled. Knowledge of scripting languages, APIs, SQL is desired.

Responsibilities

• Working closely with manufacturing teams based in Dublin. Candidates will be required to be onsite up to 4 days per week
• Creating content for a business unit supporting program releases under the guidance of more senior team members
• Creating standard operating procedures based on HVAC manufacturing processes.
• Creating content in DITA xml and content management systems
• Creating technical illustrations
• Providing DocOps support. You will have the opportunity to support one of our process teams.

Our Technical Writing org consists of 80+ writers at all experience levels. We do more than just write. As a uniquely large technical communication department, we have built our own DocOps processes: authoring tooling, publishing platform, CCMS, style guide, review/editing, illustration, patents. The majority of our content is authored in DITA XML but we also support other authoring tools such as InDesign, Framemaker and Madcap Flare.

The Technical Writing org have a track record of innovation within the company. We have won innovation competitions and had several patents granted.
