Job summary

Qualifications

• 5+ years of back-end software engineering experience in Kotlin or another relevant language.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, including designing for reliability and scaling services.
• Experience owning and operating production systems, with testing and code quality focus.
• Track record of tackling ambiguous, high-impact challenges and delivering scalable solutions.
• Curiosity about traffic in large-scale systems and ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and operate software that connects Toast's services and routes traffic reliably.
• Improve scalability, resilience, and observability of critical systems as Toast grows.
• Take end-to-end ownership of systems, enabling safer rollouts and easier fault detection.
• Investigate production issues, participate in on-call, and implement improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers across Toast on cross-functional projects and reviews.
